However, my prof emphatically said he wanted us to buy the 4th edition, and it turns out he is the editor of this book. Not pretty sure how much profit he make through selling this particular book, but I looked up online "authors/editors generally get 10-15% of sales revenue", and the class size of one semester is about 150 people. ‘interesting' update: Prof wanted us to buy the updated edition of the book, but he didn't update his own PPT, homework probs, and quiz contents. Hope our department head could read this.

Bought for college student & it held up to wear and tear!

Prof required to buy this edition
I have both 3rd and 4th edition of this book, have to say the contents are pretty much the same. However, my prof emphatically said he wanted us to buy the 4th edition, and it turns out he is the editor of this book. Not pretty sure how much profit he make through selling this particular book, but I looked up online "authors/editors generally get 10-15% of sales revenue", and the class size of one semester is about 150 people. ‘interesting' update: Prof wanted us to buy the updated edition of the book, but he didn't update his own PPT, homework probs, and quiz contents. Hope our department head could read this.

Watching paint dry
The standard for all chemical process safety yet this one book could be pretty much consolidated into an excel sheet. Don't get me wrong, chemical safety is incredibly important, but 4 pages of the same formula isn't going to make the world safe. It is the standard and a thorough book, however in this modern age, this should be a simple website or excel sheet. Best of luck and hopefully you don't fall asleep reading it.

Wish it was hard cover
The book is great, my only real harp is that it isn’t available in hard cover. Paper back textbooks suck and end up getting torn up if you have to lug them around in a backpack.

Yes, Amazon rentals are great. This particular book was a little rough with cover coming off. Still usable though.

I didn't see that this was a paper back book. I guess I assumed for $145 it was given that it would be a hardback

Poor explanations
The way problem statements are explained is often confusing, and there's a fair number of errors in the chapter examples. You expect a book you're supposed to learn from to be pretty much perfect, but this one is far from that.

Your getting ripped off
What a rip off. The only online copies r almost the exact same price as buying the book. The 4th edition is basically the 3rd with different problems.
