Amazon Fresh Organic Fair Trade Sumatra Whole Bean Coffee, Dark Roast, 12 Ounce

If you enjoy strong, black coffee and have not tried Sumatran coffee, you should. The Amazon brand is a real bargain, much less expensive than the name brands and just as good. Sumatran coffee is dark, strong, and smooth. It has a very straightforward flavor profile that just tastes great. I think of it as the Rolls Royce of coffee, but that's just my opinion of course. To fully enjoy this great coffee, I would encourage you to invest in a good coffee pot and grinder, as well as a digital scale (to weigh exact portions of whole beans to consistently get just the flavor you want), some sort of a water filter, and an airtight cannister. I use a 5 cup Bonavita coffee maker, a Tuni grinder (set to 16), Zero water filter, an Inevifit digital scale(at 20 grams of coffee beans for 16 oz of water), and an Airscape medium canister (which will hold the entire 12 oz bag of the Sumatran beans). I also use a permanent mesh filter. Paper filters soak up the some of the oils that are in the coffee. Some people prefer that taste, but I do not. I realize that the initial cost outlay is a bit pricey for all of this. However, if you enjoy coffee and drink it every day like I do, it's absolutely worth every penny. You will be amazed at how much better your coffee will taste with the proper equipment and a little effort.

Makes a dark thick opaque cup of strong black coffee in my drip coffee maker. Tastes very good to me and leaves a good taste in your mouth, I personally find most medium-light coffees to be too acidic. This is excellent and personally I like the chewy dark earthy bitterness - though it's pretty smooth and not overly bitter. My favorite dark roast was discontinued and I feel like this may be a good replacement. I tried everything from really expensive fair trade coffees at my local co-op to going through all the normal name brands in my search for a good daily dark roast coffee. While it's not 100% as good to my current taste as what I used to get, I still feel like it deserves five stars because once I get used to it I might like it even better.

I drank Caribou Coffee's Mahogany Blend Premium Dark Roast Coffee for years, then switched to Caribou's French Roast, but decided to try this Sumatra... For the price it is a deal, but only to the degree that you enjoy it... I grind the beans to a fine powder and use a single serve brewer. The coffee has a good flavor, but for my tastebuds it's not as earthy as I would like.... just the same -for the economy of it... I would give it 4.5 stars if possible... but will be going back to a stronger more flavorful coffee bean when this bag is gone. I would recommend this coffee as an alternate if you can't acquire your normal dark roast brand. I felt it was smooth, fresh and had low acidity.

I love Sumatra coffee. This was nice, made a good cup of coffee. I didn’t find it to be acidic. I appreciated the price point.

But not surprisingly good either. For the price I paid ($5 and change) I am satisfied (okay, and mildly pleased as well) with my Amazon Fresh dark roast Sumatra whole bean coffee. Being organic and Fair Trade is a bonus I suppose. My just-above-mediocre review might have something to do with Sumatran coffee, which after years of unsuccessfully chasing the dragon with my first experience (blown away by strong notes of earth, leather, spice and funk), now tastes mostly of minor notes of earth, mushrooms (which is earthy in nature), and sometimes a little spice and woody notes; with everything blunted by the low acidity and heavier mouthfeel. Perhaps my palate adjusted quickly after that first try. I like it though, and I'm not hating on it; I just want to be clear that this isn't one of those secret sleeper deals that'll make you the Warren Buffet of coffee (meaning personal enrichment through wise, patient long-term investments while living frugally), or have you uploading a video on social media bragging about your wicked find. But after a few days of drinking this coffee it started to wear on me. Flavors disappearing and just a burnt bitterness remains. Not sure I will finish the bag. Definitely won't buy again. But wait: the following morning I brewed another cup (pour-over) and this time, by better monitoring my initial pouring temperature (about 196-197 degrees F in this instance, vs 198-199 F degrees yesterday) I was able to produce a better tasting cup that had me back on the , "It's really not bad, especially at this price" bandwagon. But still, I don't feel like the Warren Buffet of coffee for it. Food for thought side note: different coffees (and roasts) taste different with different brewing techniques and equipment, and at different brewing temperatures with different sources of water. How do you know your coffee is to blame for unsatisfactory results, when it could be any of the above factors not matching your coffee type or roast?

Very tasty

These beans are very good. Not quite as strong as I like but then, I'm hard to please. Coffee was not bitter, on the strong side and tasty. Only trying for yourself will prove it.
