Marcy Magnetic Recumbent Exercise Bike with 8 Resistance Levels

Review for Marcy Recumbent Bike Marcy NS-40502R. Box arrived taped closed but seemed packed well. Someone had opened it before. Even though we love the bike, the organizing and assembly did take about 2 hours. The very last task in assembling is to install the pedals. Right side easy, left side crooked. I am a retired Master Technician and very careful in assembly. The left pedal is reverse thread. It says so, and I know so, because old Dodges are like that on their left wheels for a reason, and I was looking forward to the reverse install of the left pedal. I quickly found the pedal crank was stripped for the first few threads. The pedal was going on crooked. Of course it was the very last step in the instructions. I called Marcy and they said they don't care because I purchased the bike on Amazon. I threatened to send it back and have another one shipped, they still did not care. Choice was replace the bike under Amazon return or fix the threads. I chose not to spend another 2 hours assembling another bike. So I measured the pedal stud and ordered a tap and die on Amazon to repair the hole in the crank. I removed the bike covers for access and tapped the crank hole clean. Pedal screwed right in and we have been using the bike for a couple weeks. Note: Tap size is 12mm x 1.25 Left Handed Thread. The bike is virtually silent and works very well. The bike itself is 5 stars. The damaged threads are anybody's guess as to where that happened. I just know it was not me but easy enough to repair.

Update: 3/22/2026 Bike is still holding strong. Often is a bit of a pain to get the stats to reset properly. I believe this has always been the case, but I didn't care initially as I just needed to move. I'm at 261avg and the bike is holding its own. HOWEVER...the resistance is just weak. It may be due to the weight I started out and just need more resistance. If it isn't on 8 the peddle just goes zoooom. Other than that is a great bike. For someone needing something during the winter or staying out of the heat in the summer its a 10/10. If you need more resistance I would shop around. Update:12/30/2023 I've put around 100 miles on it and dropped a significant amount of weight. I'm still over the bikes limit, but at least shoes fit in the shoe grips nicely now. All around great bike, lower cost performs well. I did indeed get ankle weights for a tougher ride. 8.5/10 a great buy. Get this if you're on a fat-loss journey. Putting it together is a work out, if you use the tools provided make sure you have 5ish hours. Resistance seems weak to me and I wish the panel was back lit not a huge deal. Only complaint is the resistance isn't much, but I'm a bigger guy started at 358 when I got this. I'm down to 354 and I've ramped up to 10 miles per day. Maybe my body weight has made the resistance level weaker. I'm looking at adding ankle weights to increase my workout on this. I also bought a sound mat that goes under this , but its so quiet I'm not sure it was needed. My fan is louder than the bike. I can watch Netflix without headphones and watch my shows fine.

I bought this to get some daily exercise regardless of what the weather is like outside. I just spent my first 30 minutes on it, it does the job with some caveats. First, don't do what I did, which was to look at the price point, skim the reviews and click. For example, I didn't even see the tension knob, resulting in a moment of "huh" when I got it. So overall (especially when you get an assembly thrown in) this is a good value. It's pretty comfortable and does the job. I have spinal stenosis, hence the recumbent, and my back was quite supported during use. The tensioning system is pretty basic, it's just a knob on the post, rather than electronic control. It's ok, but could use a finer gradient. There's "yippie! this is fun!" and "Am I climbing a wall?" with about 10 points in-between. I was able to find a happy medium, but it could be better. The pedal action is decent as well. It's exercise equipment rather than a real bike, so if you're expecting to be able to "glide" a bit like on a trail for a moment, there isn't much of that but it's fairly smooth. There weren't any dead spots or anything, overall it felt fairly natural. One of the things that I thought I'd use is the little bookshelf thing at the bottom of the electronics package. I thought I'd throw a book or an ipad up there and I could entertain/distract myself while getting a workout in. No such luck. It would work physically, but the action of the cycle moves that whole assembly around an inch or more back and forth while you ride. Unless you wanted to induce a seizure, that wouldn't work well. I didn't even bother to put batteries in the panel yet, so sorry, no word on it. The pedals are comfortable and the seat adjusts enough to get the right distance for me (5' 10"). The only negative was that the pedal strap on one side popped off a few times. The other side didn't, so I'll have to take a look as it may be how it's hooked up on there. As mentioned above, it's not the most sturdy thing in the world. It will hold you just fine, but it rocks around a bit more than I'd like and the handles could be stronger. I wouldn't want to crank it all the way up and hold on for dear life. All that aside, I'm happy with it. I couldn't really expect any more for the price point and I hope that the overall build allows me to get a few years out of it Hope this review helps

Went together without a problem. Directions were easy to follow. All bolts and parts were clearly marked. Even came with all the tools needed to assemble. The resistance setting are perfect. At level 1 its a bit too easy but would probably be just right for someone looking to rehabilitate from a surgery or maybe in their later years. Levels 4-6 are definitely there to make you sweat and get you feeling the burn. Level 8 is for those who have some major muscle and are use to seriously working out. The magnetic drag is smooth and super quiet. The adjustable seat settings are easy to change and the bike is good and stable. The monitor works great its simple but effective enough for a home gym. I am very impressed with this machine and for the money you cant go wrong. I would recommend it to anyone who is striving to exercise more and get into better shape. I feel better knowing I have this equipment at my house where I can exercise in private. Over all very satisfied with this purchase!

First off 5 stars for assembly instructions. They are so clear and have excellent drawings, something that never happens. I just had a knee replacement 2 months ago, so assembling on the ground was not an option. I put the pedal/front end on top of a 2’ high ladder bench I have, and the back end (once I put the front and rear stabilizers on) on top of the box it came in. A few tips on putting together; one person can do alone, except for when you need to attach the tension cables, definitely need a 2nd pair of hands. I have an Allen wrenchset, you need 6mm. It comes with one but it would be a pain to use, all the bolts have that head. Another tip, there are 2 stabilizers, you want to put the one with the little wheels on the front. It took me about 2.5 hours to assemble, I move slow. It’s great! The main reason I choose this model over the cheaper one is the seat adjustment. The cheaper one you have to do from the ground, would be very painful post surgery. And the seat is cushioned. The resistance is great and easy to adjust. The LCD screen is finicky. It constantly wants to scan, it’s difficult to get it to stay on one setting (I like it on time). For the price this unit is awesome, highly recommend. As a side note, I have in backyard. Bought a$20 motor scooter cover on Amazon to protect itfrom the elements.

I bought this post knee replacement for therapy. Assembly - my husband is very good at assembling, but said some parts could have been higher quality and it was tedious - hence the markdown in number of stars. PROS - it is relatively lightweight, can be moved around short distances - mine is on carpet . It is very quiet. It is easy to adjust the resistance setting. It is comfortable. The display is easy to operate and easy to view. The lip to hold a phone or I-pad is wonderful. I use it 5-6 times a week so obviously I like it. CON - Had I tried this in a store, which was not an option, I would not have bought it. The seat cannot be adjusted while you are sitting on it. Heck, it is difficult to adjust if you are standing beside it! There is a screw type knob located under the seat - loosen it, pull down and slide it backward or forward. Now...try and find the hole for the screw knob to go into without being able to see it. I could not do it myself right after surgery, but now I lie down beside it, unscrew the knob, and slide it back or forward. With the flashlight on my phone, I line it up with the hole and usually hit it on the second, third or fourth try. I will say I am the only one using it, so its not every day, but I do want to change it sometimes for more knee bend or more straightening. Not convenient at all, and if more than one is using it, would be a total pain each time. I should have spent more for the adjustment to be made from above.

The bike was pretty easy to assemble. The cables for the screen and the tension can be tricky. For the price, this bike is great. It’s sturdy and easy to use. It’s basic. I bought it to exercise my knee after an injury and mostly just track the resistance and time I spend cycling. The seat adjustment is not ideal. You have to take out a large screw on the underside of the bike, scoot the seat backward or forward, and then replace the screw. I marked my seat placement on the bar below the seat so so can put the seat back where I want it after my husband uses the bike. I like that there are two sets of handles on the bike and that I can put an IPad or book against the screen while I pedal. Again, for the money, this is a pretty good deal. We’ve had the bike for about 2 months. I use it daily and have had no problems.

I wanted a recumbent cycle at a budget price for my basement home gym. Having bought the Marcy budget home workout station and been reasonably satisfied, I ordered this bike. It was easy to assemble and bears my 250 lb frame. It has a digital monitor (battery powered) that probably does a lot of things, but I don't use it, as I have my own routine and time myself using my phone. The bike is functional and works fine. The seat is adjustable and the tension is as well. My only issue, which is a minor one, is that since the bike is rated for up to 300 lbs and I am towards the top of its weight rating, when I use it, the front of the bike can wobble a bit when I am peddling. It's not dangerous, this wobbling, but it does make watching my videos on my phone as I ride difficult, since the phone is resting on the control unit of the bike which is between the front handlebars. Obviously, at this price point, you cannot expect a heavy, sturdy frame that will be motionless while peddling furiously, so I am still quite satisfied with my purchase, but it is an issue I wanted to tell others about.

When I received it in bits and pieces, I was bit stressed thinking whether it could be difficult to assemble and get it running ! But it was not! The instructions were clear and the workmanship standards overall were quite good that as a Senior Citizen above 65, I had no problem to assemble everything in less than 4 hours.. It is working very well.Very good purchase for the price..

Perfect for someone recovering from knee injury

Good exercise bike. I like the fact that the resistance is Magnetic so not a stiff as a others but won't wear out. Sturdy unit once tightened up with dual handle bar sets. Computer is basic. but will hold a tablet or cell.

Me costó la mitad de que costó la otra! Es bien construido, de material de alta calidad. Como alguien mencionó en los comentarios, tarda cerca de 3 horas para armar bien. La armé solito en cerca de 3 horas. Funciona perfectamente bien. Cuando la uso, en ratito estoy sudando en setting #3 (de 9). Mi idea era a usarla en las noches cuando finalmente tengo tiempo libre y quiero ver la tele antes de dormir. Es silencioso, que es un requisito mío porque vivo en un edificio. Satisfecha mis requisitos y necesidades bastante bien. Estoy muy, muy contento.
