is there glass on the front?

It’s not glass, but a nice plastic that resembles glass. The clock looks much better in person than the pictures do it justice - I was skeptical and prepared to return it, but was pleasantly surprised and very happy with my choice!

I have tried several different batteries, making sure to insert the + end first. I still can't get the clock to work. Is there another trick?

I had the same problem. Took me 3 different batteries to get it to work. Once it got going ot has run well ever since. I'd say make sure you have a goid fresh battery.
