Woodi WI-921W WI-922W Wooden Irish Whistle Key of C and D Key in ABS Pewter (2 Pieces)

These are US made from a wood lookalike which is a form of plastic. This gives a 'woody' tone - probably less intense than metal ones - and a nice 'chuff' on the lower octave. Having a 'C' and a 'D' covers a whole load of Irish songs too. Having a removable head means is is also adjustable for tuning (as well as cleaning), which is great when playing with other musicians. The intonation is excellent on mine but this may vary from sample to sample. This is how 'in tune' the instrument is note to note. Even the high octave is pretty good. I'm sure that many bad reviews about the high octave are down to player inability but it does require some effort to get consistently good high octave notes. Bearing in mind that these are 'beginners' instruments and the incredibly low cost for a US made instrument - AND - the really nice case they come in - I think these are amazing. Plastic is also and advantage for cleaning to keep those bugs at bay!

I'm the owner of a good few whistles from Clarke and Generation, but these are definitely my favourite. Firstly, the quality is solid - the only complaint is that the Woodi font on the whistles can be scratched off, but likely won't be unless you purposely try (like I did out of curiosity, and perhaps a little stupidity). Comes in a fantastic little leathery case, with compartments for each whistle respectively. The fact that there are two whistles AND a case makes the value of this VERY good. The tone is nice and mellow, not too harsh or sharp. The breath needed for the higher octaves is a good amount - you don't need to blow extremely hard for the upper octaves, but it's also easy to not accidentally hit them. The whistles are also adjustable so that you can tune them with other instruments. This is an extremely rare feature on whistles of this price. I also think they just look fantastic, although I think they could probably work on a more realistic grain in the future - I thought the Woodi logo on them was a little tacky, but that's just my opinion. I'm really just nitpicking though. All in all, fabulous whistle set, thank you Woodi USA - for a Celtic instrument, you Americans really made a cracking version! Was well worth the wait for the shipping to the UK as well, didn't take too long.

Have a few D whistles both low and high but these are great value and sound great. At first they seemed to clog a little but I put a little plumbers PFe tape to seal the head better still tuneable and no clogging and you get a useable case with them also

For the price, these are both a fantastic piece of kit. They make a good clear sound and are quite forgiving on learners

Quality is okay, but it is annoying that they put "tin whistle" in the description for the meta tags as you'll note that these are made of wood. They are scaled like tin whistles but basically sound like recorders. Wouldn't recommend really.

I was looking for a C whistle and the reviews suggested the Woodi whistle would be a good choice as an inexpensive option with the added benefit of a D whistle thrown in. If you like whistles that sound like recorders, and you never play anything in the second octave, then these whistles are fine. When you start playing the higher octave, both whistles become very squeaky and unpleasant. I've played whistles from six or seven different makers and not had the same problem with any of them. I've since read other reviews elsewhere to find that this is a common problem with these whistles. Oh well, I'll just have to find another C whistle.

I bought these because I wanted to try a Susato-style whistle but at an affordable price. I play the whistle already and have a number of metal whistles, and I was very impressed. It is a chiffy whistle, in tune and fairly loud. It will be heard at a session. Another benefit is that you can take it on an airplane in your carry-on (X-ray scanners don't like metal whistles that look suspiciously like pipes). The case is a nice value add as well!

Was mich nur ziemlich stört ist der penetrante Chemiedunst der einen um die Nase weht. Abwarten ob das noch verfliegt, ansonsten muss es leider reklamiert werden.

I got interested in Irish whistles on a whim - wanting something cheerfully to play while walking or hiking or just something to create simple tunes with. Nothing too complicated or anything that would cause my fingers to reach too far. I am sooo glad I bought this set! They have a very delightful sound and encourage creativity because of the ease of playing and the limited scale. However, you can reach for a higher octave by adjusting your breath and thus get the higher scale notes. I experimented and created a little jig that you can see in the video. Sorry if my playing isn't all that great. I'm still getting used to trying to hit the higher scale and still need practice! But you get the idea. Although I'm a "beginner" and I don't really read music notes (yet) I play lots of little jigs and ditties I make up and record for fun. The set comes with an imitation leather case and a black velvet smooth inner lining with three pocketed sleeves to house them. I was able to add a third whistle in the case and everything fit and zipped up nicely! Of all my bamboo flutes, dizi's, and Irish whistles, this is by far my favorite go to whistle. I take it with me on trips, long car trips (with my husband driving of course), and where ever and whenever I get the desire to have it with me to play something sweet and fun. I attached a leather string to it so I can wear it on hikes. To me, this set was worth every penny because I have had hours of entertainment and music creativity composing many happy tunes with them!
