Creative Haven Entangled Coloring Book (Adult Coloring Books: Art & Design)

I like this book a lot. Sometimes you want a book to color that you are not locked into a color pallet. This allows me to play with color combinations. Coloring is great to do especially during the winter when there is not much to do outside the home. I have used several of the designs already and have thoroughly enjoyed them. There best used with water based markers. I think alcohol markers would go through to the back of each sheet so make sure to have something that will protect your work area. I generally use the back cover of the book. Only negative is the perforations dont allow you to easily tear out a sheet. I lightly score that line with a blade otherwise they tend to rip .

This is my second favorite coloring book on the market, for the fact that it is not as restrictive as some of the others. The drawings are organic and you can tell they are hand-drawn. They are not computer produced. I imagine floral and plant compositions when I look at the drawings, intriguing and mysterious gardens and natural wonders. This book allows the user to develop textural skills with the space that is available, as well as perspective. When I color I make a note to show foreground (warm colors) and background (cool colors) in order to establish my senses of orientation and perspective. I receive many compliments on this book and have given my friends pages to color, even people who say they are “not creative.” This book is the second best to a good mandala coloring book, and in fact, even has some mandalas within it. I recommend colored pencils for this book over markers, although a combination of both might actually be even nicer. Take care to not to let markers bleed through the page you are working on onto the next design. I recommend tearing out the pages individually and working on a clipboard, this ensures you do not damage other pages in the book. Bottom line: Beautiful, sweeping organic drawings that inspire creativity. My only criticism is that there are not enough pages in the book!

Great book, we have five coloring books and a ton of markers, sharpie, pencils. I first scan the pages when print them on thick watercolor paper or on drawing paper that has a smoother surface. This way we can always have the original page to color again and don't have to worry about bleeding through the back side. You get the best scans by cutting out the page from the book so it will lay flay on the scanner bed. You can also scan directly from the book but its a little more difficult to hold the book down flat and to get the art work lined up straight We have a Canon MP 280 printer with a built in scanner that only cost about $40.00. My wife is recovering from knee surgery and spends most of the time in bed or on the couch and my daughter (15 yrs old) and her love to work on these together. They just love these coloring books. We also bought, Creative coloring animals ( really nice book), Mystical Mandala (great stress relief designs), Fanciful face (not as detailed as the others). The favorite markers are Stabilo 88 markers. They have a nice thin point and are great for detailed work and have vivid colors. Also used cheap colored pencils. Be sure to have a good sharpener like Prismacolor Scholar it also works great. This piece was done by my daughter who couldn't stop working on it and found it to be very relaxing to do. Mostly done with the Stabilo 88 markers.

This coloring book has such pretty, detailed designs that are perfect for unwinding after a long day. The paper quality is nice and thick, so markers and colored pencils don’t bleed through easily. Each page feels like a little piece of art, with patterns that keep you focused and calm. I really enjoy how creative the illustrations are, and there’s a good variety of complexity so it never feels repetitive. It’s a great pick for anyone who finds coloring soothing or wants a mindful break from screens.

The Entangled Coloring Book is the first adult coloring book I've used that really, really takes my back to my childhood. Although the designs are incredibly intricate, they have a child-like feel to them that I really like. Angela Porter is a great illustrator! There are so many cool designs in this book. All of them look as if they were hand-drawn, which is incredible, given the amount of detail in all of her pieces. They border on cartoon with a whimsical feel that I would akin to Alice in Wonderland. I love that every design of hers is so different. They are familiar, yet varied. What I most love about this coloring book compared to others I've used is that most of Porter's designs are full page. They take longer to finish, but by the end I feel more satisfied. What's also cool about this book is that there are a couple nice colored pictures inside the front and back covers that gave me as the colorer, a starting off point for possible ideas such as color scheme and shading. I was then able to really take off into some of the pieces and create pages that I actually surprised myself with. It's really a great coloring book. Although it's Angela Porter's work, I really feel like I'm a part of it every time I complete a page.

Creative Haven Entangled Coloring Book has especially gorgeous drawings. I have just been getting into these adult coloring books as a tool for stress relief, and this one really stands out. I love all these shapes – they are especially fun to color and well designed for their function. I noticed in the description they call this book “specially designed for experienced colorists,” which makes sense because the shapes do really lend themselves to experimenting with color more than other books. This title is very well priced at $5.99 as well- great bargain for all the drawings you receive! I also plan to buy more for gifts to other friends and family members in the future. The pages are single sided, which is great because of possible color bleeding issues (which anyone who has dealt with adult coloring books will think a great detail!). I used a tip from other reviewers to keep the pages from bleeding through even on the single sided pages – placed a couple pieces of heavy paper in between the page I colored and the next one. I especially like the color prints of a drawing on the inside front and back covers – a really beautiful detail that helps inspire me.

Water based markers bleed through a lot. Too bad, the designs are very interesting. But the pigma archival ink does not bleed through the paper.

I chose this book because I enjoy complexity and fine detail rather than coloring large blocks of color. I thought I would be most drawn to the large full phase pictures, but I started with a mandala and have become a real fan of those. They are symmetrical so you can work out a color scheme in one section and follow it for the remaining sections. I've done three now and am ready to venture into a full page picture next. I've used gel pens and markers. As others have noted, the markers bleed through so be sure to protect the page behind, either by removing your active picture or placing another sheet of thick paper behind it. I've enjoyed Gel Gliders, Pilot gel pens (although they come in limited shades) and Sharpie fine point markers. Less happy with Juice pens. I find colored pencils too mild for my taste. There are several full color examples to study for ideas. I love these drawings. I plan to frame them and give them as gifts this Christmas. In fact my sister saw me working on the drawings and requested the book and some gel pens for her Christmas present! Tips: if you get to a point where you're not sure what colors to use on your next section, take a color photocopy and test ideas there. Think about a color scheme and choose your colors accordingly. In addition to focusing on a color family with pops of other colors, consider whether you want high contrast (see photo 1) or harmonious colors. My preference is to limit the colors and use them repeatedly in varying combinations (see photos 2 and 3). You might like to use metallics or sparkles sparingly and repeat them throughout the drawing. The larger blocks offer opportunities to draw your own details. Use a black gel pen to subdivide the area or add lines, blocks, squiggles. Color a section and then use a light colored gel pen to add dots or squiggles. Your only limit is your imagination!

This "Entangled Garden" adult colouring book by Dr. Angela Porter, offers creative and intricately-designed images. The paper quality is good, the images are crisp, clear and at this price, it's a great Amazon value.

I bought this book for my daughter and I to colour in. I have similar books but this one is really great with the repetitive patterns in an entangle design. You can create really lovely designs but just changing the colours. The are all great designs, they are mesmerising when you get started to finish. I enjoyed colouring in these pages so much and the fact that the pages are single sided and perforated make this an ideal book. The designs are described by the author as being for experienced colouring artists but I disagree. I think these are perfect for anyone to colour in. They are not complicated at all and there is a lot of variety to choose from. I used copic sketch markers to colour in but colouring pencils or other kinds of pens are also suitable for these designs. They have been inspired by zentangle designs and are very similar.
