to the seller: do you happen to know the percentage of montmorillonite in the clay?

Hi, Originally, the term Montmorillonite referred to the town of Montmorillon in France where the clay was first identified. This vein has long since been depleted, but there are other sources, including the one in the Mojave Desert. There arenât many, however. Montmorillonite refers to certain properties the clay has. Our calcium bentonite clay is in the smectite clay group. This is important because smectite clays are the *only* clay group of the seven that both ADsorbs and ABsorbs toxins and impurities. Itâs what makes smectite clay highly desirable.The two most familiar species of smectite clay are Montmorillonite and bentonite. The term bentonite was named for the town of Fort Benton, Wyoming where (a sodium bentonite) clay was discovered by John Pascal. Over many years, the terms smectite, bentonite, and Montmorillonite have been used interchangeably. These days, the clay can be called by either its French name or American English name to accurately describe it as a smectite clay.I hope this is helpful.

Hi, the FDA considers Calcium Bentonite Clay as GRAS (http://www.fda.gov/food/ingredientspackaginglabeling/gras/scogs/ucm260870.htm). Specifically that designation is for it's use as a food ingredient (for example, to clarify wine), and does not necessarily mean it's safe to take internally. In terms of whether or not it's safe to take internally, that's something that a healthcare professional should be consulted on. Thank you for the question.

What is the size ?

It comes in different sizes. The one shown is a 4-lb. Click on "sold by" and then in the upper left corner you will see their name again with "store front" click on that and you will see what they sell. Good stuff this clay, only thing I have gotten from them. Make sure you get "drinking powder" if you are using internally, they also have a bath. Reason being, drinking is "calcium bentonite clay" and the "bath is sodium bentonite clay", at least the bath use to be, they may have changed it, however you can use the drinking powder for the bath as well. It will tell you when you click on an item. I have not gotten anything else as I can make my own stuff from the one I get. Hope I did not run on to much. Enjoy!

What is the mining process? What equipment is used, specifically what metals are coming into contact with the clay during the mining process?

Hi Danielle, we do not own the mine however it is our understanding that standard mining equipment is used in the mining and milling process. Our clay is 100% pure. It is neither irradiated, heated, washed or otherwise cleaned... just straight out of the earth. Hope this info helps. Thanks
