Dickies Men's Relaxed-Fit Carpenter Jean

Every bit as good as the Carhartt Carpenter Jeans in strength, comfort and no doubt endurance. Though, I can put multiple cards in the coin pocket of my Carhartt and not these. However, a right leg pocket next to my phone pocket will take my cards I'll affix a popper on for security. Incredible price and well worth every penny. They are a perfect fit. You need have no doubts about these.

I have been a long term fan of Carhartt workwear, particularly their duck cotton products. I bought several pairs of their equivalent to this carpenter ‘pant’ over a decade ago and the things are built like tanks, very thick and heavy duck cotton and seemingly indestructible stitching. These Dickies versions are much lighter and don’t have the odd looking flappy pockets hanging off them, resembling cotton spaniel ears. They do have a few additional useful pockets and a hammer loop which will hold anything with a T shaped head such as an axe, or handled Allen key. They are noticeably thinner than my old Carhartts, but it does make them slightly ore comfortable and lighter to wear in the hot weather (albeit a distant memory as our government freeze us to death presently). Not sure how long they will last, but they seem well put together, and they are very comfortable to wear. My only gripe is the sizing has many ‘dead spots’ in between the available sizes, which isn’t unique to these trousers, or Dickies. It’s just somehow very noticeable as I ordered 40” waist to allow the ‘tucking in’ of shirts, pullovers etc, and they are frankly enormous. I kept them in case I gain weight (unlikely as the government is trying to make food so scarce and expensive that I shall soon be eating bi-weekly) and ordered some size 38”. These were better and stay up mostly while I walk around, although if I skip breakfast a belt is preferable. Feeling like a 36” might hit the sweet spot I also ordered some in that size, and lo and behold I can’t even get the zip all the way up, let alone connect the button. I shall save these for my impending starvation, late 2023 or in the event I have an undiagnosed cancer thanks to ‘covid’. Just get a pair, if you’re tempted. They’re great trousers, or ‘pants’ if you swing that way.

My pair of these just arrived. Tried them on and they seem nice. Ordered them with a 34 inch waist and they actually have a 34 inch waist, which is fabulous (other pants I've bought recently in a 34 inch waist have actually had a 36 inch waist, which really frustrates me). These are made out of proper, stiff, durable-feeling canvas, which may not be to everyone's liking, but I personally see it as a positive as a lot of pants nowadays feel like they're made out of table cloth fabric. The fact they're stiff also means they can be cuffed at the bottoms without the fear of the cuffs unravelling. These are a bit higher waisted than what I'm used to, but it's not a problem. It's just something new to me. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, if you buy these in desert sand, they are darker than what is shown in the pictures. Instead of being a greyish beige, they're more of a khaki. Personally, I'm happy with the colour of them, but they really should update the pictures to better reflect the colour you can expect when your pair arrives. As for fit, it's a pretty standard relaxed fit. If you've ever worn a pair of Levi's 550's, the fit of these will be familiar to you. Not baggy, not tight. The fit is just right... Hey, I'm a poet and I didn't even know it :D

Well, the colour seems different from the order. It looks much darker in the Amazon photo. The fabric is terrific... very hard wearing and good relaxed fit. May look better as they fade.

Originally Dickies used to be made in USA and quality was perfect. Later on production moved to Mexico and quality of products was equally excellent. Unfortunately some of Dickies product nowdays originate from Bangladesh where the quality is below pair. Standards of sizes are incorrect also stiching is so poor. Dickies have gone down the pan, a true disappointment. Please return production either to USA or Mexico.
