A quick end to a bad mosquito infestation
After a wet summer and Hurricane Matthew, my Orlando home on a drainage pond was soggy and absolutely overrun with mosquitoes. The lanai and front porch were literally covered with them, and going outside just to walk the dogs was a suicide mission. I was able to knock them down for a few days at a time with hardware store pesticide sprays, but that was getting expensive, gross, bad-smelling and probably toxic. As soon as a new batch would breed and move in from outside the spray radius, the place was uninhabitable again. I did a lot of research on mosquito traps and settled on this one. I know some mosquito species aren't attracted to light, but mine certainly are - any covered areas lit at night were mosquito meet-up zones. I didn't really want to fool around with propane or attractants, and thought I'd just give this a shot. Brother and sister, does it catch bugs! The instructions say to give it 2-4 weeks to have a good effect, but it provided relief on our back lanai literally overnight. I quit spraying once I ordered it, then plugged it in on the lanai when it arrived -- let it sit right on the floor -- and ran away. By morning I had a huge catch of mosquitoes in the trap (along with a load of moths) and none roosting on the walls and ceiling as usual. I was able to walk the dogs without having to slap any skeeters off me. I was so impressed, I ordered another identical unit for the front porch. At this writing, the one in the back has been running for almost a month, the one in front for two weeks. Just for kicks, I thought I'd wait a bit to empty the front unit so I could show what 2 weeks of catch looks like (attached). That's a hefty mass of mosquitoes in there. Thousands, for sure. Feels weighty in the trash bag. The sweet heft of success. I hardly ever see live mosquitoes hanging around the front porch or back lanai any more, and I haven't sprayed again since buying these traps. It's also dried out and cooled down a little -- 60s at night, 80s in the day -- so hopefully that will all work together to interrupt the breeding cycle and get back to a normal level of mosquito annoyance. So, at least for my situation and with my species of light-loving mosquito, this product totally worked. Tips and thoughts: I'm not doing *anything* to maximize my catch. Both units are sitting in a spot on the floor that is convenient for me and near my outlets; people say to put it higher to maximize how many insects you catch. I'm not using any additional lures. I'm still catching a ton of bugs and most of them are the targets - mosquitoes. Maybe I'll play with better placement and lures eventually, but for me this product has been "set and forget." The visible light also means it catches a lot of moths. I don't have anything against moths especially. My high tech solution -- other than the 2-week catch I photographed for visceral effect -- is to just open the trap when I see moths bouncing around in there. They'll usually flutter right out. I might free a live mosquito or three ... but they're dumb, they'll be back. This model does cast a fairly bright visible blue light. I'm about 100% sure that this visible light is the primary reason it works so well for me, but if you were wanting to use it somewhere that you want to keep dark, that's a non-starter. It's labeled as "whisper quiet," but as others have pointed out, the fan does have an audible hum. To me, it sounds a lot like a buzzy AC circuit, or the humming of a pot on an induction range. It's not awful, but it's not silent. Both of my traps sound identical. Repeating what everybody says: turn it on and leave it on; don't shut it off unless you're emptying the catch bin. Just toggling this trap on when you want to go outside does not work. If hungry mosquitoes have a choice of you or the trap, they'll go for you. You want the trap to vacuum them and their families up when you're not there, and they don't have anything better to do than go check out that funny blue light. The instructions say to put the trap far from your living area, and I did that -- mine is about 30 feet from where I usually sit. But I'm fairly certain that an as-yet unkilled mosquito, hungry for blood, is going to zoom right to me and ignore the trap entirely. The effective defense seems to be to make all those mosquitoes dead, or interrupt the breeding cycle so they never get born, well before you present yourself. Since the light seems to be a very effective part of the lure (at least for my mosquitoes) avoid having other bright lights nearby that may seem more attractive. My traps catch the most mosquitoes when the lanai or porch lights are off at night. I'm planning to switch all my exterior lights to motion sensors for convenience and security with minimum bug appeal. I'm continuing to do all the common sense, non-pesticide things everyone should do to control mosquitoes: get rid of standing water, avoid over-irrigate, treat unavoidably wet areas with Bt ("Mosquito Dunks"), etc. But these traps seem to have made the critical difference in preventing re-infestation from elsewhere. It's really been transformative and wonderful. A final unsolicited editorial comment on the UV + TiO2 = CO2 lure technology: I don't personally believe in it. While the photocatalysis reaction is a genuine phenomenon, scientists have not been able to measure any carbon dioxide plume coming from DynaTrap units (e.g. [...]) and even just thinking theoretically, I head-scratch over where you'd get enough carbon out of other atmospheric carbon compounds to make this a meaningful lure effect ... VOCs? Organic emanations from dead bugs in the catch bin? But I'll give DynaTrap and their resellers a pass on what is possibly a bit of snake oil here, since this trap absolutely does work --- albeit I think for other reasons. It seems well-made, does what it says on the tin, effectively reclaimed my outdoor living areas within days of deployment, and ended my overdeployment of insecticides. I'll report back on reliability after I've run them for a while longer.

Great Product, great customer service!
This is the second Dynatrap that I have purchased. I purchased a smaller one. It did a great job but I decided the unit wasn't large enough for the size of my property and the rural nature of where I live. I purchased this larger model on April 17, 2021. It did exactly what I needed it to do and worked better given the size of my yard. Near the end of the season the bulb went out. I assumed that since it was the end of the season the bulb had just "burned out" so I put it away for the winter. No issue, right? I ordered a new bulb a little over a week a week ago. Installed it when it arrived. Well, issue...Plugged it in and the new bulb did not light up but the fan was running. Now, realize this is about 3 weeks after the 1 year warranty had expired. And I had never registered the unit for warranty purposes. I sent an email to they folks at Dynatrap on Saturday 5/7 explaining what i just stated above. Received an email on Monday 5/9 that started with an appology for my issue. Email stated there must be an internal issue with the unit, that it was covered under the warranty and that an order was placed for a new unit that would arrive in 5 to 7 days. It arrived 3 days later...at no cost to me. AND, no need to ship back the old unit. The folks at Dynatrap make a great and effective product. And they stand behind it! They have great customer service! These are rare qualities for some companies but Dynatrap possess them ALL! I highly recommend this product and this company!

Not worth any money.......
I had this for a couple of months, which got a decent amount of bugs, but mostly moths in my area. The light died so I thought, and I purchased a new one, installed and it didn't work. Sent emails first to tech support and no replies. I finally got through a phone call and they sent me a new unit, saying the old one was un repairable. It actually was winter time now and so I took the unit back in storage. After winter, I took the unit back out and after about 2 months, the same thing happened again. New light bulb and it doesn't turn on, I believe it has to do with the electronic for the light bulb. The fan works fine. Not worth any money in my opinion. I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with this issue. Also twice within half a months worth of use. I tried reaching out again but no replies, I'd rather not deal with it. Spend my money and time on something reliable.

Works on most bugs
I bought this bug catcher as a replacement for it's bigger brother. (Has two tube style bulbs instead of this plug-in style) I liked the bigger one better, it pulled in mass amounts of millers, moths and other tiny flying bugs. One season alone had 3 inches of packed insects. Then the bulbs went out. Bought replacement bulbs but they are mounted in such a manner that I can't get my hands into the crevasse to change them out. Took apart the topper and still couldn't get the new set to light. This smaller model has a different bulb style which also works but the bulb has a short lifespan. It was also a pain in the knuckles to change but at least it fired. Another down side is the catch screen has a funnel in it. It fills up faster then allows the bugs to escape. (Have to empty it more often) Buy replacement bulbs when getting the unit, save the hassle later.

IT WORKS!
Mosquitoes have been a problem around our patio and yard ever since we moved here. We have lots of azaleas and other bushes and trees that they like to live around. I really wanted something that would bring them under control as I seem to be a magnet for them. It was so bad that you couldn't go outside without swarms flying around your legs and face. I've had the Dynatrap (3/4 acre) out now for 8 weeks. I kept the basket emptied and mostly saw what we call June bugs and moths in the basket. There were so many of them it was difficult to see the mosquitoes. Those species are also slower to die I guess where the mosquito is so small and light that the moving air dehydrates them quickly. We noticed a positive difference after about 2 weeks however but then at about week 3 there was definitely a new hatching so we had a few more show backup again. Within another week or two things started to improve again. Now we are at week 8. WOW what a difference. I came home from a walk/jog yesterday and I like to sit outside while I cool off and drip sweat. This is when the mosquitoes used to really attack me. I sat there for 15 minutes and had ONE...that's right...ONE mosquito come around me. I sat there and kept exclaiming...."This is unbelievable". So far...extremely happy with the device. It seems to be pretty well made as well so hoping it holds up well. My next fear was the bulb probably cost some crazy high number to replace. Looks like I can get it for ~$10 so I'm still happy with the value on this thing also. BUY IT if you need it.

Sort of works - Later comment after more usage
This is a bright bluish light that attracts most all night flying insects. Caught probably fifty times more non-biting insects than mosquitos. Did reduce the mosquito population, but not sure really worth it, as caught so many moths etc., about a coffee can full of moths every nite. I don't know what good moths etc. do, but know they don't bite. Was able to release some of the very large moths that did'nt get sucked down into the bottom every morning, but really felt like maybe doing more harm than killing off some mosquitos was worth. So it is a toss up, is it worth killing a few mosquitos and at the same time literally slaughtering the moth population. I don't know - it's a personal decision. FYI - I was using the mosquito bait for this test all the time. This was over a two week time period, in late July in upper Michigan. -Later comment after more usage. Bulb lasted just over two weeks, then burned out. This was annoying, all that money for a product that failed after two weeks, my opinion now is "Do not purchase, this is a big waste of money."

1.5 years and going strong
I first bought this skeptical of what a little fan and light bulb could possibly do to control the biting insect (more than just mosquitoes here in PHX) but I was beyond pleased to find that this thing WORKS. After plugging it in (24/7, always on), and locating it in the farthest corner of my yard, I quickly realised that the days of gardening covered in bug spray were behind me. While yes, it takes a few weeks to make a big dent in your population, the wait is very much worth it. In my suburban backyard, I went from always having to use bug spray (and still getting bit) to never using any and never getting bit in about a month. I’ve left my unit running 24/7/365 for a year and half now (and still on the original bulb), and I will never go back. I’ve sent various other DynaTraps to friends and family as gifts and they have all praised their power. So long as you follow the instructions, your trap will quickly catch moths, mosquitoes, biting gnats, etc.

Disappointed
I bought this as a recommendation by our pest control guy. I bought the one that has a range of about 1/4 acre; however, it was more accurate to say it covered 1/4 of a foot.. I sat a few feet away from this while getting eaten by mosquitoes! I’m not sure why. We ran it for the 2 weeks, continuously, as stated. It did catch tons of flying insects, but very few mosquitoes. The bulb ended up burning out after about a month! (Which isn’t really a great deal considering the fact that you’re supposed to run this continuously for it to be effective!) So we probably won’t replace the bulb, as I’m reading it can be pricey. And considering it didn’t deter the mosquitoes much, I’ll probably try something else. The only good thing about this is that it was easy to empty the bugs that were killed and my chickens enjoyed eating them.
