Amazing distraction and more fun than I remembered

Bought this as a gift for my friend's 7 year old. He loves solving Rubik's cubes, and loved having new shapes to solve.

You won't be winning any speed competitions with these cubes. They have no springs or magnets. However, they do glide well and easily. The 3x3x3 cube is VERY easy to rotate and has a smooth, nice feel to it. The more complex ones, like the 4x4x4 or the dodecahedron, get stuck easy on adjacent sides, and this slows down the solving process, making sure that all sides are perfectly aligned before rotating. That said, I didn't expect much for a 20 dollar set of 5 puzzles. I certainly did not expect magnets or springs. I expected poorly constructed products that were passable for practice. What we received were very well made cubes that turn well and have a strong, quality feel to them. They glide well, except for the above catching issue, and the stickers are decently durable, though the dodocohedron stickers began to peel after about 10 solves. So, for the money, you pretty much can't beat these. They lost a star for two reasons. 1. The contained instructions are minuscule, like...need a magnifying glass to see the words kinda minuscule. In fact, I'm not sure how they printed such tiny little letters that were legible at all. 2. I'm not a huge fan of the colors. The red is VERY dark red while the orange is a neon orange. The contrast was alarming. On the 12 sided puzzle, there are two different shades of almost every color, which is a given, but the yellows are just slightly different from each other, and are hard to distinguish from each other without bright lighting. All and all, though, these are well worth the money and providing hours of fun for my young kids and I.

Didn't realize until I received the set, that it was appropriate for those 6 years old and up. While I plan to give my son or niece the 2 easier puzzles, I'll hang on to the 3 more challenging ones. I'm 55.
