A durable and usable field notebook, and good for the left-handed.
I tried the Square Cahier Journal as a thinner, lighter alternative to the Large Squared Notebook for use as a field notebook, which I have been using for years. I thought I would miss the thicker notebook's bookmark ribbon, but it was surprisingly easy to find and re-find my place without the ribbon. More surprising was how well the heavy card-stock cover stands-up to riding around in my cargo-pant pocket day after day taking notes on construction sites. I prefer the bookmark ribbon and elastic closure band of the Moleskine Notebook, but I would not hesitate to use one of the Cahier Journals. I carry one in my bag as a spare in case I fill-up my current notebook before I can return to base to reload. If it looks good to you, but you are uncertain about quality or price, I don't think you need to worry about it. Definitely value for the money. Oh, and if you're left-handed like I am, this is definitely a left-hand friendly notebook; low profile (no hump!).

They don't suck at all
To be clear: these are not pocket notebooks. I think it would be a freak of pocket nature that could carry these thing. But I don't use them to keep with me. There is nothing I stuff into a pocket that I don't eventually lose. Pens, notebooks, cell phones, pictures of my dog... nothing is safe if I stuff it in a shirt pocket. And if I stuff something in my jeans it gets mangled beyond recognition in very short order. So I keep these journals available in the usual places: kitchen table, living room end table, work desk, and my car. Any place I might come to some form of relative rest, I keep one or more of these journals. They're the perfect size for me because my handwriting style doesn't happen to be petite; it's a sprawling mess. These journals are just big enough to capture my extemporaneous scrawls defining work ideas, grocery lists, diagrams (block and schematic--hence my preference for graph paper), and lyrics that pop up at the oddest moments. The quality of these journals is superior to anything else I've tried. The cardboard covers do their job admirably, the paper takes to ink without blotching badly, and the paper is bound well. I have full confidence that what I write in these journals will be there when I race through rain in parking lots to reach my car, which is usually parked in the boonies to avoid door dings.

Excellent
I love these moleskin notebooks. I use them as inserts for my cahier travelers notebook. Love having a little pocket in the back of each notebook too. They arrived quickly, were well packaged, and I haven't had any problems with feathering or bleed through. I use my Lammy AI, my Pilot Metropolitan and two different Moonman fountain pens. The only fountain pens that I own that bled through were the Pilot Varsity disposable ones. Would definitely recommend and will be purchasing more as soon as I need them.

Nice little notebooks
Bought a bunch and shared them with my shop. perfect for taking notes, fits easily in your cargo pockets. Grid lets you take notes or draw diagrams as needed. May buy a bunch more for the next rotation and put the Squadron Patch Sticker on them

Different print quality
I’ve been a loyal customer of Moleskine for more than 6 years. Especially square Cahiers, that are with me every single morning over the years. I was hooked to the touch, feel, look of it. Yet, when it arrived today, it felt like a notebook from a generic brand. It does look similar. Yet, the print is more thick, the quality of paper is different. Maybe I am used to European production. But this one definitely makes me think of changing to a new brand. Is there a chance to get in the US this notebook, that has an old slightly lighter print and the good quality paper?

My favorite Moleskine
I've tried a half dozen Moleskine products over the past 7 or 8 years, and this one is my favorite. It's square-ruled, which is a must for me (making lists, I like having a column to align with, and engineering sketches "belong" on a grid). Compared to the pocket-sized products, this one is large--the trade off though is in writing comfort. But "large" is a misnomer--a legal pad is Large. This is 5"x8.5", so it's just large enough. I prefer the thinness and flexibility of this product over the hard-bound elastic-banded products, too. Thicker Moleskines mean that I'm carrying around a lot of old notes, plus they just take up more space in a bag. For me, having a thin notebook that I replace every few months is preferable. To each his own, however, that's the beauty of the broad Moleskine product line.
