What keeps the easel from collapsing? I bought another brand and the back leg was not "tight" and kept collapsing.

Not sure these easels are mini ones and were purchased as gifts .

Does the product come in a box? This is for a gift.

No it’s in plastic, my purchase was for a gift as well . I didn’t realize this till it arrived. So I put it in a box and the other (I ordered 2) in a gift bag .

Is the mini easel very flimsy?

It is not the sturdiest but well worth the price.
