Works well and taste good

I actually used these to help ease me out of a coffee dependency. They are so yummy and the sugar kicks in quick. There’s not a sustained caffeine or stim effect, just a minimal but effective boost up. I was having a terrible time starting workouts and they helped a lot. I’d be fazing out from the coffee withdrawal at various times and one would fix me up.

I never really can tell whether these gels work. Is it all psychological, or can your body really use those extra 100 calories, now? Regardless, for 8+ mile runs, I tend to use a gel every 5 miles. I know that the caffeine gives me a mental pick-me-up toward the end of a run or race. I tend to alternate caffeine and no-caffeine gels, and I make sure I have one for mile 22-23 during a marathon. This caramel macchiato is a pleasant enough flavor, but I have to admit that I buy whatever is the best price point. This last time, it was... caramel macchiato!

They keep forever, work when you need them, these taste better than most. The caramel macchiato doesn't cause as much mess as the chocolate and is less thick, so easier to eat. I still avoid putting the empty packet in my jersey pocket if possible, or take it out asap, but the chocolate Gu always manages to leak remnants onto my kit.

The caramel macchiatto is my favorite energy gel flavor. The extra caffeine is welcome when needed. It is a good facsimile of a real coffee. It goes down smooth and creates no stomach issues even when I'm in the middle of strenuous exercise.

As an endurance athlete (running, bicycling) I have used many types, brands, and flavors of energy foods. I am partial to GU, as it goes down easy, gives little to no stomach upset, and has a predictable effect on my workout. I was very excited to see the Caramel Macchiato flavor, and had to give it a try. Typically I have days that I want to carry fruit flavors, and days that I opt for the sweets... I could carry the Caramel Macchiato GU any day, and I would be happy. The taste is distinct, yet oddly neutral, it goes down smooth and easy, and has good mouth-feel. It washes down well with water, and if you happen to grab a sports drink accidentally at a water station, it does not give a stomach-churning clash. The gel acts fairly quickly, and does not give a quick crash. If I had to pick just one gel to run or bike with from now on, GU Caramel Macchiato is it!
