Works GREAT! Hard sticks-warm with blow dryer to apply to strop, belt sander or polishing disk.
6 different grits. Each stick is very firm. EASY fix, just warm with blow dryer until it becomes soft, then you can touch to spinning belt sander belt or polishing wheel, or apply to strop with your thumb-make sure you did not get too hot. Best edges I've had in a long time. I also use diamond paste-I don't see much difference and this is much cheaper. I apply different grits to different sections of the soft side of a leather belt (~ 6-9"). You can also apply to the smooth side of the leather, but I prefer the smooth leather untouched. Get a used belt from a thrift store-the bigger the better. Make sure it is GENUINE leather and not PU Leather (fake leather). Or purchase an already make strop. On a long belt I can get enough sections to apply all 6 compound grits to the belt. You can then lay it flat on a table/bench and use like a paddle strop, or hand from belt buckle and use like a hanging strop. If you hang the belt be sure to pull taught, otherwise the leather will wrap over the edge and cause curling and dull the edge. A taught strop with a VERY light touch works great. Mine came in a zip lock baggy, but each stick was individually wrapped, not in commercial packaging. Would I knock a star off for this-NOOOOO. I'm rating the product, not the packaging that will just be thrown away.

Worked GREAT, They only "look" dried out and brittle.
I was worried about them arriving dried up and they would just crumble, and when they arrived, they looked kinda powdery and i opened them up and grabbed one and it felt kinda hard. Had me nervous. I grabbed by buffing wheel and added some to the pads as they turned. It did NOT crumble, or throw powder everywhere, and worked perfectly. I just think they use a dryer compound then some. It polished and removed the mild surface rust that was developing on the barrel of my 1911. Worked GREAT. I would totally purchase this again. The information on the back that tells you what each bar is for and its level of polish is helpful so you don't have to look up what each color is for and what you can use it on. This was a good deal and a great price.

Great for experimenting with different grit compounds for knife sharpening - a little dry/brittle for buffing out of the box.
This is a convenient and reasonably affordable sampling of the different compound grits, considering each color bar weighs about 5-6 oz, so you're getting roughly 2 lbs of compound for about $7 per pound. Seems like a pretty good option for experimenting with different grit compounds for leather strop sharpening. Having done just that, green and black seems to be all one needs. Though white is a popular option for some blades, chisels and leather cutting tools particularly. Brown doesn't seem to be able to do anything that black can't do better. And red and blue are both finer than green, which already is fine enough for a mirror finish on your blade edge. For leather strops, these bars are large enough to last for quite some time. Though, you'll want to heat the leather with a hair dryer or hot air gun, or condition it with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) first before applying, as the bars came pretty dry in the package. For that reason I'm a little more critical of this set, if ones intended use is for buffing wheels or discs, as the dryness of the bars wastes a lot of the compound when pressed into the fast spinning buffing material. Maybe they can be softened first, in a microwave or wrapped in a damp rag. I'll do some experimenting the next time I need to polish something other than a knife edge. For knife strops, which was my primary purpose, these are just fine as they are. I also experimented with several bars using separate buffing discs for an angle grinder, while polishing a stainless steel handrail. It was effective, but it was wasting too much of the dry compound while applying the bars to the discs to finish the job without finding an effective means to soften them first.

works very well and for newbes like me included instructions are super
I read all the reviews so that I would know what to expect because I have never used polishing compounds before. I expected they would be softer, like beeswax, but after reading the very thorough and easy to read instructions, learned I was mistaken. Softer bars would apply to much and be a waste of the compound. Used as per the instructions they should last a long time. I have polished brass, copper, steel, stainless, nickel and aluminum with great results. I must commend the Enkay company for a fine product and the excellent how-to instructions and compound guide. Very well done. Highly recommend

Totally Worth It
I make hand-stamped metal jewelry, and seriously can't find enough stuff to polish, LOL. On top of the things I've already made, I've gone through my own fine jewelry (gold, silver, platinum, etc.), my family's fine jewelry, friends... You get the idea, LOL. I want to polish EVERYTHING! Plus, most of my sterling silver is from Tiffany & Co. (stay with me, here. I'm not trying to brag. Shoot, I couldn't afford gold or diamonds from that place if I sold my firstborn, LOL) and I have no fear when I polish that stuff. This set of polish will help you get deep scratches out, as well as put a fine, glossy shine back into well-worn pieces... Kinda like the way you remember your jewelry the way it was when you first brought it home from the hospital.. I mean the jewelry store, LOL. Now that I've said that, maybe I should try to get that "showroom shine" on a few babies? No? I'm KIDDING! I'm totally kidding... Kinda, MWAHAHAHA ;) :P I'm getting away from myself, here. What I want you to know is this stuff is awesome. I'm not being compensated, nor have I been already, for saying that. If you're disappointed after using these bars, you're doin' it wrong, LOL.

Great product, immense size too!
I didn't expect them to be this big. They're massive! Just look at the pictures. They work great too. Some people complain that they are hard and crumble when you apply it to your tool. You don't need to press hard. The friction will heat up the compound and you don't need a pound of compound on your wheel. I used a Dremel and lightly touch it and that's it. I'm polishing a watch. It's brushed stainless steel and I want a mirror shine on it. I started with the black emery and the work is already halfway done. I will post pictures when I'm done. But I just wanted to show how good this works. The last picture is the "before" pic. Edit 2 days later.. Finished polishing my watch. See the video.

Worked perfectly
Nice range of grit, worked extremely well reviving the stainless and aluminum trim on my 55 year old classic car, Also used the two finest grits to greatly improve the plastic headlight lenses on my 14 year old truck.

Classic and good.
Really good stuff. Near mirror finish with Dremel on my Helle knife. Better than factory finish.
