The key word here is "beginners."Yanconsky has developed a book for people who have never drawn before. (That's what he says, not what I'm claiming.)The book has a lot of blank spaces, as in the back of almost every page. Okay, it's not THAT bad, but with all the empty space on the pages, it feels like about half a book.So there is very little help in how to do "urban" sketching. What is offered is good.If you have never drawn before and are wanting to work with an interesting style (see the cover of the book) that is not concerned with looking like a photograph... then you might want to consider this book. On the other hand, don't expect the kind of results Yanconsky gets because his drawing abilities are way beyond "beginner."If you want to learn to HOW draw, go with "You Can Draw in 30 Days: The Fun, Easy Way to Learn to Draw in One Month or Less" by Mark Kistler. With Kistler's book you have a foundation to draw anything in any style.

Best book on drawing that I've seen!
I just recently purchased "Urban Sketching for Beginners". I want to say firstly that I purchased 5 books by different authors on drawing. I received this one last, and like they say... save the best for last. Yours was the easiest for me to comprehend on how to draw. The author breaks it down to where it is not overwhelming to this left-brained wannabe artist. I even love the feel of the cover, I find myself just running my hand over the cover of the book because it feels so nice. I normally don't leave feedback here on Amazon, but this book was so awesome that I had to. this time. As soon as I can afford another book, I will be purchasing your other drawing book. Thank you for sharing your awesome talent with us artist wannabes.Brenda Moffett

Not what I thought, no color in the book
This book didn't simply cover the color painting aspect of urban sketching, there was no color photos inside as well as a very very novice book. The only images they showed in the preview was in color which was the front and back covers.

Sketching made easy!
I'm halfway through this book doing the exercises as I go. I love Liron's explanations, examples, and clear instructions, and tips to get to the next level with your drawing skills.

Formatted for easy retention
This book is well thought out. Information is spoon fed for easy retention. The author is considerate and encouraging. I have no idea what material of the cover is made of but it feels so nice. LOL I would buy this book again.

Inspired.
Great book. I like that he gives you confidence by reminding the reader he isn't a trained artist. He reiterates he started out not so drawing so great either.

A nice set of exercises, well written and fun.
Nicely done clearly written with good examples and plenty of encouragement. The key of course is to practice and be critical enough.

Disappointing
Cannot recommend this book. Illustrations are crudely done in greyscale along with a few black and white photos, with no colour. It has the feel of something knocked up on a photocopier. Have given a star just their bothering to print the covers in colour. Very uninspiring. Spend your money on one of the many excellent sketching books out there.

Better to skip it
I had great expectation from this book, while there it has quite good rating score and on the cover it says "By Bestselling Author", but I couldn't read it to the end.Awful layout as it was done by child in primary school (Times new roman, 13-14 pt, left aligned text) , the same sketches are repeated several times in different chapters, a lot of nearly blank pages (with a line of text or perhaps small sketch - I attached two images of four consecutive pages). A lot of written paragraphs are finished with a phrase: "You know, what I mean", or similar. As the author has nothing smarter to say and wanted to extend book volume.Even sketches are ugly and sometimes wrong drawn. Although I tried hard, I couldn't find any positive thing about this book. Also buying the book to a child is not good idea, too little demonstrations and far too much pointless text about every thing it try to explain, "You know, what I mean"...

It's an easy to read conversational book with lots of the author's ...
Not a lot to say about this really. It is most certainly for the extreme beginner but does not really have many exercises and not exactly all step by step either. It's an easy to read conversational book with lots of the author's sketches shown. Some of his recent pieces but mostly ones from when he had just begun sketching. There wasn't anything I didn't know in the book byways of new information. But as someone who has not started drawing from real life yet, it is a quick interesting read to have the information all in one place divided by topic. I plan on keeping this as a reference book until I outgrow it.

Bom
Dá uma visão geral sobre o desenvolvimento de sketches à partir de objetos simples, sombras, perspectiva e uso do material mínimo necessário. O mais importante é o constante incentivo que o autor dá aos interessados em iniciar nessa Arte.

A good step to start with.
I would say this is an excellent book for the true beginner. The exercises help to explain simply why certain steps help your basic drawing. Along with his videos, this author will help you see that you can do this. That’s what I like to get across to my own students.
