Pinocchio: The Making of the Disney Epic

Amazing. Loved this book. AAA+
Wow! I've been waiting for something like this to come out for years. Several years ago I was fortunate to work for a producer at Disney Animation who let me review a copy of a copy of the scene story breakdown, storyboards, scene script outlines and character model sheets for Pinocchio. Apart from that hand produced xerox document, a book called "Disney's Illusion of Life" and scattered material on the internet, little has been comprehensively written about this landmark Disney film and the filmmaking process. It's a beautiful book, meticulously researched and a true labor of love. Awesome job with the layout and graphics! I feel and believe this is Disney at his best most mature work. I recommend this book to any and all Disney fans. It scores a 9+ on a scale of 10. The only soft spot I can find in this book is a slight weakness in not giving enough copy to the ground breaking animation techniques, the multi plane camera invented by William Garity for the Walt Disney Studios, and the films cultural impact prior to WWII. It's important to note that the book should have devoted more pages to the thumbnail story sketches and scene sequences privy to the the various story editors working on the film. The book should have included other model sheets, layout backgrounds as well as the preliminary color studies. I know that material exists because I have seen it first hand. Hopefully in a future edition, the author will include this material and obtain it from the Disney Library Archive. Overall this book represents a note worthy scholarly achievement accessible to all.

Exceptional!
Too often, books on Disney animation are either too heavy on images, leaving the reader wanting more in-depth information, or too heavy with text, leaving the reader wanting the ideas to be better illustrated. This book strikes a perfect balance, and is hefty enough to go into sufficient detail in both imagery and analysis to satisfy any animation fan. Beyond just the visuals, the author digs into the soundtrack as well, offering intriguing details as to the creation of both the music and sound effects. A truly must-have addition to any animation or Disney library.

Pinocchio revealed
The Disney Pinocchio is far from the original Italian book by Collodi. Less somber, more appealing. This book reveals how the transformation happened. What a great work by Disney and his studio !

Beautiful, well written book on Walt's Masterpiece
Beautiful, well written book on Walt's Masterpiece. I would recommend to all Disney fans. I've been a Disney geek for over 30 years and thought I knew a lot about the making of Pinocchio - But Kaufman's meticulous research turned up new stories and anecdotes practically at every page. Highly Recommend!

Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide!
Firstly - In 1997 Pierre Lambert had written a book about the making of Pinocchio which is held in very high regard. So high in fact that it is almost impossible to purchase a copy without taking out a mortgage. With the greatest of respect to monsieur Lambert and to Disney I can honestly think of better things to spend the best part of £300 on. You won't find it much cheaper than that anywhere. Believe me I have tried! This new 2015 book by J. B. Kaufman (in my opinion) is somewhat unfairly cast into the shadow of the former book. After reading the 3 star review of this item I admit to thinking twice about making a purchase. Thankfully I saw sense as my love of classic animation, and "Pinocchio" in particular, won me over. I had to let my conscience be my guide on this one!On delivery day I was stunned by the quality of detail both in the informative writing and the gorgeous photographic material. The book is big and sturdy and made to last. I give this gem a highly recommended 5 Stars ***** !!

Wow!
Upon opening the delivery, I was struck with a sense of enthusiasm that I have not encountered with a book before. The cover shines, far exceeding the colour shown here. The pages were a sight to behold, with such a variety of images from pre-production and from the film. However, the crowing glory of this book is the deep knowledge it provides through written text. The sheer depth it provides to an animation created 75 years ago is outstanding. I highly recommend this book to all fans of Pinocchio.
