The material for clip on back of retractable reel is Metal, and also the spring plate inside the reel is Metal too

I believe it does, I've always had to take it off going through security.

How do I clasp the lanyard? It wont snap together.

The product photos depict a safety buckle at the end of the lanyard in which the 2 pieces are supposed to fit together. But they do not fit....?

It's a very stiff clip connection if it does not fit I would suggest you return it because mine fit fine you may have gotten one that did not work correctly
