Every recipe is amazing, the pages are in color, and the history is priceless!

Unbelievably good
This cook book is something more of a text book both in style and size. It is packed with historical information, ancient poems and texts, stories, cited art and of course recipes. The index alone greatly impressed me. It's worth far more than the $46 price so do not hesitate.

Lovely book
Excellent i wish i could afford the 1 st edition ($600) but hey i am happy with the ($60) one i got ! It is a lovely well written cooking book with history and tales of spices and people, you can almost smell the spices with pleasure !

Practical & Informative
An excellent food book: cultural backgrounds, practical recipes, meaningful narratives, thoughtful illustrations. the product of a caring writer with a long and deep experience with food writing. Being an award book, from an award author must mean something!

Amazing historical images, illustrations and stories
OmG I love this book. My in-laws bought it for me when we first got married over 28 yrs. ago so I can learn to cook Iraqi dishes. I love all the stories of ancient Mesopotamians battling the buldge, stopping over for a snack but over staying their welcome and staying for dinner. I enjoy reading the history and imagining the shops, pots, beef tripe and tools she describes.
