Having recently upgraded my home security with the 3 Star Anti-Snap Platinum Euro Cylinder lock, I am thoroughly impressed with its performance and security features. This lock is approved to the high security British Standard TS007:2014 and also carries the Police Secure by Design accreditation, which gave me a lot of confidence in its ability to protect my home. I have recently moved house and wanted a new lock for my front door, and this is the highest star rating (3), and it’s Yale, so it’s a name I know and quality I trust. I’ve also had a similar lock, with the new key design before, and while I don’t love that you put it into the cylinder horizontally, if it makes it a safer lock, I’ll deal with it. I got mine for £26 on an Amazon resale deal, so I’m very pleased with this price. I also received two of the long screws that you use to attach the cylinder to the door, but I think this might have been a mistake — one was still sealed in the packaging, the other was loose. I checked that each of the three keys fit and rotated before I swapped the cylinders out. Installing the new one was easier than removing the old cylinder. I removed the handle and the plate, fought with the old cylinder as the hole in the uPVC wasn’t done perfectly and was about 2mm out. The new cylinder slid straight in and the screw went in easily after a little wiggling to get the cylinder in the right place. I retested all 3 keys after reattaching the handle plate, no problems at all However, the item description is a bit unhelpful. The image that shows you how to measure the size you need labels the external measurement as ‘A’, and the internal as ‘B’. I think most people would assume that ‘A’ would be the first number in the A/B split, but Yale’s own website states “the internal size is always stated first in the product description”. As this is sold directly through Yale’s own Amazon store, yet the image implies the opposite, I wonder if this difference is why Amazon lists this item as being frequently returned. My cylinder is 45 internal, 50 external, so I chose this one based on the UK Yale website’s measuring guidelines. It was what I needed.

Be very careful if installing this lock in a door that is the only access to your house. Whether it is a security design or bad design I would need a locksmith to comment but I fitted this to me front door a couple of days ago and found myself locked out even though I had the key!. Our front door is a Hofmann metal insulated security door that latches when it closes so it can’t be accidentally left unlocked.- you need to key to unlatch from the outside. However, unlike the lock that we replaced, this lock will only unlock from the one side if the key on the opposite side is PERFECTLY HORIZONTAL. Even if the key in the inside is only slightly turned (see video) you cannot turn the lock from the outside. So if this is your only access, you are calling out a locksmith or breaking into your own home. Luckily, my wife had gone out of the back door and had another key so we were able to get and turn the key from the inside but it certainly taught me a lesson = take the key out of the lock on the inside!. It is also not the easiest lock to put the key into (as you can see from the video - you have to align it absolutely perfectly). I will be looking at other brands with 3 star rated Euro locks as a replacement to see if they have the same problem.

If fits perfectly without any problem. It looks great. Now I can rest my head for sleep more assured. It worth it.
