Arrived with side dented
It's a terribly awkward size in practice. I thought it would be great for classroom use, but it's just really ...awkward.

Hope it works if ever needed on my Bosch 400Wh e-bike battery.
Seems to be as advertised. Hopefully they really have tested it for the 500WH batteries they claim, because steel melts at 2600F, and LIPO fires can reach 3600F according to Envista Forensics.I think I would feel a little safer if the steel were a bit thicker. The 7.5 lb box feels a bit light, but I have no real basis to judge that on, and a YouTube review of the medium size Bat-Box with a smaller battery demonstrated a successful fire containment. And it filtered the black smoke into a white smoke, though the review did not give an odor analyses. But I assume larger batteries would have a hotter/longer fire. And if the steel were a bit thicker they probably would not need so much protection during shipment – it arrived well cushioned in air filled plastic tubes and a double thickness cardboard box.I had two choices of where to store my Bosch 400WH e-bike battery (which is UL certified) – either outdoors in a shed (which has very high temperature extremes in summer and winter) or indoors. Since temperature extremes can greatly shorten the battery life, and since the battery costs $600 to replace, and since the battery is UL rated, and since LIPO fires are rare, I decided for indoor storage. But in the hopes of keeping Murphy at bay, and since the “fireproof explosion proof” bags have all been demonstrated on YouTube to be worthless, I bought the Bat-Box,Hopefully it will prevent the house from burning down in the event of battery or charger failure, though I have no idea how much smoke damage would be done to the house, even with the Bat-Box filtration system. The only cons to the box are the cost, size, and charge monitoring. This seems a bit expensive for a relatively lightweight 7.5 lb steel box, though I have no basis to judge that on other than fire-proof safes seem to be much heavier and about half that cost. I would have preferred a smaller size more tailored to my battery – the XL is much bigger, but the next size down (medium) is too small. And another minor annoyance is that I only charge the battery to 80%, since fully charging to 100% shortens the battery life. But the charge indicator is on the battery itself, so you can not see it when it is charging inside the box. Thus you either have to keep opening the box, or charge the battery out of the box outdoors, or charge the battery out of the box indoors – which defeats the purpose of the box since charging is usually when fires occur – but I cannot think of a safe/easy workaround for this.I was a little skeptical that the rubber charge cord plug would survive a fire, but the YouTube fire demo showed that it did survive.Anyway – if this can in fact prevent a house from smoke and fire damage, then it is obviously well worth it.
