The newest Pokemon for 2020!
Our girls got into Pokemon last year with a purchase of the modestly named Super Deluxe Essential Handbook with its 800 pages of Pokemon. But with the release of Sword and Shield and the addition of the Galar Region the book is already out of date. This book fills that void with maps, tips, info on trainers and of course guides to the latest and greatest Pokemon like the colossal Gigantamax forms of popular Pokemon. Our girls have been studying it like a newly-found Dead Sea Scroll and practicing drawing the creatures. If your kids are mad for this franchise this is a good buy that will keep them entertained for hours.

Very pretty graphic design
The design and format of this book is so pretty and reminiscent of the Sword and Shield game UI. They have an entire section where they group Pokémon by evolutionary family, covering the entire page to highlight the official artwork. Then, separately they have other section where instead they show the 3D in-game model of each Pokémon with the table of moves they can learn and other battle stats. This is different from previous Pokédexes. I like this better since usually the other format would lead to smaller artwork, which is the main reason I buy these books. I also wanna say the print quality is so much better than the Strategy guide, which had these discolored pictures of the Pokémon throughout the whole book. The bonus poster with the entire Galar dex is also really good.

Solid reference for pre-update SwSh
This book is solid reference material. I was telling my friends last night how my only peeve was that Egg Moves for an evolution line were only listed on basic/baby forms. Seems kind of absurd since the point is, as far as I know, to be able to tell what moves any Pokémon is able to have. Corviknight is able to have Tailwind in its moveset, but looking at its entry on its own wouldn't tell you that. That WAS my only peeve. Now I take more issue with it because I woke up today to some amazing Pokémon news... Including some that made this information out of date. Not like "not including transfer Pokémon" out of date. Like "This book now is missing information about Pokémon someone can get even if they have no other Pokémon games. Even if they don't have the DLC. Just by keeping the software updated. So yeah, I'm planning to catch the new Galar Form today, and potentially naming it Bookbreaker.

Pokekid approved
So my son is a total Pokemon fanboy. He loves everything Pokemon and can pretty much tell you every evolution of all the different region Pokemon in great detail. I have bought him various Pokemon indexes and books over the years. He told me the day that it arrived in the mail that this one was a BEST he has ever read. He likes the way that it organizes the pokemon by pokedex #, and a lot of other stuff that I only half way understand. If you are looking for a gift for a Pokemon fan, this is a great choice.

NO MISPRINT HERE! April 2020
I've read several reviews about how the pages of this guide were printed out of order, which is what delayed my purchase until early April, 2020. I can happily report that my guide is printed correctly. I can't speak for all copies, obviously, but it appears the publisher has worked out the initial kinks of the first run. I hope this helps anyone sitting on the fence about purchasing. As for the guide itself, so far it seems very helpful as it contains all the possible moves learned by each Pokemon, so you can plan ahead for your master team!
