The Black Stallion's Blood Bay Colt: (Reissue)

The Black Stallion Series crosses over into Harness Racing
The Black Stallion's Blood Bay Colt is Farley's foray into harness racing. At the end of the last novel, The Black Stallion and Satan, Henry Dailey and Alec Ramsey discuss doing Henry's old friend Jimmy Creech a favor by breeding his mare to The Black. This book is the result of that pairing. We meet the trio - Jimmy Creech, veteran harness racer, George, his faithful sidekick, and Tom Messenger, a young boy who has a passion for horses and harness racing, before the colt is born. Tom is just coming into his own with horses, and Jimmy entrusts the care of the mare and foal to him for the summer while he heads back out to race his current horse. But Jimmy's health and Tom's capability change the landscape and soon Tom and George are training Bonfire, the colt, while Jimmy's every effort should be on getting well. Tom and Bonfire have the chance to win big, but they must take some big risks to get there. It's a good book, but it loses a star from me because of the incessant return to worrying about health issues and pride. That takes away a bit from the pacing of the story and the focus on the horse and his entourage. I could have done with a little less concentration on that aspect, though the training and racing parts were brilliantly written.

Another wonderful horse story
This book is from the Black Stallion series, but is about one of the Stallions son's. It is a wonderful story about heart, steadfast hope, and acceptance of the changes over time. The bloodbath colt is a sulky racer which is different from the other stories, however there still is a boy that loves his horse and believes in it with everything in his heart.

The Black Stallion series never disappoints!
I have been reading Walter Farley's horse stories since I was old enough to check books out of the library. When I finally got a Kindle-Walter Farley is one of the author's I wanted to collect. This story about the Black Stallion's Blood Bay Colt was new to me and very enjoyable. These books were written for kids but are lovely reading at any age for those of us who love horses, racing and a time when things were less complicated! Highly recommended!

Can a racer bloodline become a pacer?
Henry helps out a long time friend by giving him a breeding to the Black. But the new foal will be a harness racer. Can the Black foals racer as well as pace to the finish line?

GAIL
The blood bay colt taught me a lot about breaking a foal. I tried the patient way one one and the rough way on another. Patient way was easier and the baby learned trust, and was faster in the end. The one I was rough with took a lot more strength and and hard work. Took that baby twice as long be for it trusted me and in the end I had to have patient and soft voice.

Always good.
I have always loved Walter Farley books. They were my first reading series and I got them for my grandchildren. Some in paperback, some in Kindle, but still good reading!

Adding to my collection...
I was excited to find these titles on Amazon, as this was a favorite author of mine as a child! This one gives an interesting and believable account of the raising, training and racing of a harness race horse. A Must Have part of the series!

Got cheated story repeated under different title
This book Book 6 The Black Stallion's Blood Bay Colt, in the series is word for word the same as The Black Stallion's Sulky Colt. I feel cheated and feel I should get a refund for one of them.Don't get caught by Amazon. I feel there should have been a mention that the story was the same as another title, if I had known I would not have bought it.One star awarded for the fact I was cheated.

Excellent, novel twist on The Laudable Black Series
By introducing harness racing, a new young kid, and the son of The Black, the author creates a wholenew realm of horse racing to explore, while still anchoring the story to the history of The Black. Very clever setup.
