The horror thriller "IT," directed by Andrés Muschietti ("Mama"), is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids is faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

No clowning about here!
So then... there are complaints this is not true to the original miniseries or the book. Well now I am so glad it is not, I am so sick of films copying action for action and word for word when they attempt a remake. What is the point of that anyway? It is just laziness and trying to make a quick buck by cashing in on someone else’s work. For those who have read my reviews will know I am no fan off remakes. The original IT miniseries, movie, film, whatever was absolutely brilliant and I could not say how many times I have seen IT...let alone how many vhs tapes I have gone through and dvds. That is how much I love the original. I have never read the book, anything with more than 250 pages would just make me lose interest, especially when I can just watch the film version whether it be true to the written word or not. So, this is not a review to do with the book and neither any reference to the book. I was always going to see IT chapter one, I had to, it was a given. I was waiting for chapter two to be released so that I could watch a blu ray version off chapters 1 & 2 in the comfort of my own home and without any people around me screaming in a cinema...Long story folks but it has happened to me in the past. But when I found this on Prime I had to see it.I honestly did not want this to be better than the original, I was sneering to myself and telling myself it was nothing like that experience when watching the original that first time which I remember very well. After about 30 mins in, my sneering became more like inner cheering. By the end of chapter 1, seeing how good this Penny Wise was, how great these child actors were and even how there was a difference in storyline like no werewolf, no silver and catapult...this version was better to me than the original version. I know with time we have better cameras, graphics, cgi and everything. Those involved have made sure that they knew that surpassing the original would have to be something very special indeed. Especially with so many hardcore fans of that original to please. You are never going to win over and convince everyone, I for one totally enjoyed the experience of IT chapter one. It is a shame that the young actors from chapter one have to go away and grow up for chapter two. But I hope them young actors are very busy actors now as they deserve to be. I just hope chapter two will be every bit as entertaining and not let my hopes down as I am very eager to see how this ends...like the original or???

A brilliant ode to the original!
Usually, I am not a fan of remakes, especially of the classics.. but they did an amazing job with this one!Don't be put off by the age of the main cast, it does not in any way detract from the deserved horror genre it sits in. There are sufficient and well planned jump scares, gore and edge-of-your-seat anticipation throughout the whole film. These important parts of any good scary movie are well-coupled with a brilliant level of comedic value, humour which is definitely adult centred, so you won't be disappointed with it.The movie does touch on some sensitive issues, in the personal lives of each cast member and these are pretty hard hitting. There are references to abuse, neglect, munchausen by proxy.. so be warned that there are some sad parts which might trigger you.All in all, this film is a tremendous combination of horror, with comedy, with real life issues. I thoroughly recommend it.
