Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit X Multi Tool, 24 Function Swiss Made with Locking Blade and Long-Nosed Pliers, and Leather Pouch - Silver

Reliable and reasonably priced multitool. This is the second one to replace the one my brother in law snagged lol. It has a great build and has the stylish appearance one would expect from Victorinox. The weight is also a lot lighter than my Leatherman tools that I have and it is definitely lighter than the Swiss Tool X which I have. It's a great tool with a reasonable price, although I had bought it for $80 originally, but the quality build of the tool is worth it. The knife blade is easy enough to sharpening and holds a reasonable edge like it's other Victorinox SwissArmy relatives. Overall, it's a no frill multitool that fits the hand nicely with no " hotspots". I had my Spirit for five years and was a reliable edc companion for work. The needle nose style pliers was also very useful for pulling staples out of boards. The screwdrivers are the perfect size and ,due to the design, I found it useful in an " L" configuration for additional leverage or it's elongated length to get to hard to reach screws without using any type of extension accessories. Yeah, I love this tool and, out of all the multi tool options on the market, this is my favorite one.

For those seeking the short answer; I can’t imagine anyone not liking this tool. Whether it is for yourself, a gift for a friend, or to hand out to employees who might be tasked with various small jobs requiring a variety of tool functions. It’s beautiful, functional, durable, and priced competitively. To the specifics: Even though there are many reviews, I had some difficulty comparing size between this model and the straighter, full-sized model which is also available at about the same price. A lot of my confusion was due to misinformation provided in the specifications. Also, some of the photos posted are distorted in such a way as to mislead as to size and shape. For comparison’s sake, I will describe this Swisstool as falling in between the size of the old, traditional Leatherman, and the Leatherman Super Tool. I consider it to be on the upper end of the size limit as to something that can be carried comfortably in a pocket, (without a case), which is what I wanted it for. Please see the photos for a better idea of what you can expect; When the pliers are open, this tool is very close to the length of the original Leatherman, but when closed, the difference in length and thickness is apparent. Features: Although the basics are the same in most models and brands, be careful in choosing if you are picky about certain features, as these can vary slightly from model to model. I picked this one because I wanted a file, regular knife blade, and scissors. For occasional use, (as opposed to “Every Day Carry”), you really can’t go wrong; just be sure of what you are getting, as I have witnessed some games being played with the photos attached to the descriptions here. Compared To Leatherman: I have “EDC’ed” a Leatherman in various forms for 25 years, and I would still consider Leatherman to be the “Gold Standard” by which all others are judged. I do realize there are other brands, and I have had most of them. While many differences exist between the two, most come down to personal preference rather than quality. For example, I like the standard (small) Leatherman pliers better because of the finer shape of the nose, but the Swisstool pliers are also excellent. This Swisstool offers the ability to use the various tools without opening up the handles, and this might be an advantage for some. Also, the curved design of the Swisstool allows for better hand comfort when using the pliers, although I have never considered this to be an issue with my Leathermans. So overall, I have to take the middle ground as to which is better. I suppose the Swisstool gets points for sexiness, due to the absolutely perfect polished finish and graceful design, but I still love all of my Leatherman models, and they still turn heads when I deploy the tools and fix something in a fraction of the time it would take someone to walk to some location and grab a toolbag. Overall, the reason I ended up with the Swisstool instead of the Leatherman is due to the thickness, the size when closed, and the price to get (most) of the features I wanted. The Leatherman models I considered were either small and toy-like, or big, heavy and expensive; I have found that the thickness of the tool is the biggest issue with carrying in my front pocket without a case, rather than overall length. A model like the Leatherman Wave has more protruding edges that tend to catch and wear on pants and pockets. The Swisstool has smooth and rounded corners and is riveted with a round headed fastener that does not offer as much resistance in the pocket as the fastener heads on the Leathermans. Also, I really am not interested in anything that comes with a set of bits, which complicates carrying and increases the odds of losing something critical. Are you listening out there in Portland?? Pleasant Surprises: In addition to just overall quality, the feel and precision of the locking mechanism is very impressive. The sharpness and toughness of the tools may surpass that of my previous Leatherman models, and the small chisel is a bonus that I now realize will see much service in the future. Dislikes: not much. I really, really wanted a straight design with the measuring scale, but that is only available in a larger model. The scissors are a bit puny when compared to the larger model. And the knife blade on this particular Swisstool is kind of smallish and a less aggressive design than the Leathermans I have owned. I should also mention that I hate the stiffness and long, long “break-in” period on any of these tools. It is sometimes difficult to deploy certain tools if you are “fingernail challenged”. In summary, I offer this method to help you select the right tool; First decide on a strict price range, next overall size, then features you have to have. You might just end up with another brand- even the cheaper brands are decent quality for occasional use, so maybe you don't have to spend a bundle to get what you are after. The biggest weakness in the less expensive brands that I have witnessed personally relates to the quality and hardness of the steels, but this might not be a big issue for the occasional user or an item going into an emergency kit. This tends to show up as wear on things like the Phillips head and jaws of the pliers. It is surprising how many different brands and sizes there are floating around today, so you have to take into account how you plan to use it. I don’t like any of the cases on either brand, and I don’t believe that cases should be a factor when choosing because none of them will hold up as long as the tool, which very likely will last a lifetime, or until you lose it to the TSA.

So in my seemingly never-ending quest to find the perfect pocket knife and multitool, I purchased this Swiss tool after much debate. I watched many other reviews and while I initially thought the MX clip version would be nice. I ultimately purchased this one seeing as the price on sale at $119 was an absolute steal. I’ve carried Swiss Army knives for years, going all the way back to my days in the scouts, but in the past few years, I have found the need to have pliers handy, mostly due to the nature of my job and carrying a separate set of pliers, as well as a knife and the other tools just seemed a bit too much. Now I have a few Leatherman‘s as well and while I do like the Leatherman’s, I’ve always been drawn to the quality and the aesthetics of Swiss Army products. This tool it has everything that I could possibly need minus replaceable bits, which is not strictly necessary, but is a nice addition that Leatherman has on their multi tools. For all the tasks that I need a tool for on a daily basis this one fulfills all of them quite well. I really am not too bothered by the lack of replaceable wire cutters as that is one of the few things that I don’t actually do on a daily basis. The plier head, however, is very strong and the tips are quite fine which still allow for some precision work and the more standard plier area works well for gripping onto small nuts and bolts that I have to loose and tighten throughout the day on my machinery. The knife is what you would expect from Swiss Army. It cuts very well and while it doesn’t hold an edge forever, it is incredibly easy to bring back with a few passes on the ceramic rod or on a strop. The scissors as usual are quite wonderful although I do think the ones on the standard Swiss army knives work just a tad bit better. Right out of the box the tool is very easy to operate and I love how easy it is to actuate the pliers as they pretty much move freely right out of the package. The locking mechanism for the tools is very easy to use one handed. Some of the tools when I first purchased it we’re a little stiff opening up, but after a month or so they easily pull out without pulling their neighbors along with them. This is quite the shiny tool, but it is easy to clean and easy to maintain. The flathead and Phillips drivers work very well. Now I don’t have much use for a bottle opener or a can opener day today, but having used them in the past on other Swiss Army knives I have no doubt that if and when the situation arises, they will work quite well. I think this is an absolutely wonderful multitool that will accomplish most tasks just fine. I’ve not done anything. extremely ridiculous with this tool such as hard use prying as in those cases I would feel more comfortable, using a dedicated prybar for that. The fit and finish as usual are fantastic from anything from this company. They included sheath is leather and is very nice. However, I do wish that it had a button instead of the Velcro just as I can see the Velcro wearing out a lot quicker, especially as I take the tool in and out of the pouch several times throughout the day. The other advantage to this is that it is not an overly heavy tool so I really don’t feel it on my hip. I I have debated purchasing the pocket clip, and I may do that in the future however, I generally carry this tool during the week for work purposes, and when I’m not working, it typically sits in its pouch in my man bag, as I typically carry a pocket knife and away a Swiss Army knife in my actual pocket. Now it has a lifetime warranty, although I don’t know that I would want to test that seeing as their warranty is not quite as forgiving as Leathermans. In comparison to Leatherman I would say that overall this is a nicer tool that is more ergonomic in the hand however, I will say that Leatherman does have a wider variety of tools and I would have to say a better selection of tools available. Most of that comes down to what you can do with the replaceable bits and it’s adapters and general and the replaceable wire cutters if that’s something that you use more often than not. I find myself alternating between this and some of my Leatherman tools throughout the week so as usual, I still don’t think I found the perfect one and much like my pocketknives. I tend to just rotate through them. You really cannot go wrong with this tool, especially if you can find it on sale.

The build of this tool is top-notch! The smooth finish is awesome. When you feel it with your hands, it's amazing how good it feels. The chassis construction is above what I think anyone else has. The individual tools are very high quality, too. Some of the tools are a bit thicker than others, which is OK with me because they took the time to figure that some of them should have a heavier shank. For example, the pry tool has a massive spine, thus giving the user the feeling that it won't break under stress. The longer Phillips screwdriver is much better than any other tool I've seen. -- you can actually get it in longer places, whereas others are just not long enough.Both the file and saw have a thick spine as well. The file has two degrees of roughness, whereas the front of the shank has a tooling that will cut like a hacksaw. The saw tool is very sharp and will cut thru most anything you need to cut. The can opener is not like most other tools I've seen. This one has a pretty sharp edge to cut thru cans with ease -- I've used it! The knife is very sharp and very strong and I don't see any issues with it. The scissors are...well, much better than I initially thought. They cut, and cut very well. They are a bit small, but I have cut thru some very thick cardboard just to see what it can't do...and it can do it all. One of the coolest and useful tools I found is the chisel/wire stripper/box cutter thing -- way to go on that triple-tool! The locking mechanisms are very good and this tool is just the finest piece of work I've ever seen. There are two issues I would like to point out to Victorinox: 1) The scissors are very good, but could you possibly make the opening just a bit longer? Find some way of doing it, cuz I'm sure other users probably agree. 2) The hole punch thing is very nice and strong, but for the love of God, please put a hole in it...somewhere! I could attempt to drill a hole myself, but I'm pretty sure that no matter how I try, I won't be able to drill thru this monster steel. Summary: If you are looking for a new multi-tool, this one is 99.98% awesome!

I have a good number of multi tools. They each do ALMOST everything pretty well. The Spirit X does everything and does it very well. Any choice of multi tool involves trade-offs. Include pliers? It's getting heavier. Need a full size file? More weight. A good sized saw? More weight. What the Spirit X offers is all of these tools and many more and weighs ONLY 7.4 oz, which is about as big of a tool one can comfortably keep in a pants pocket for every day carry. (The sheath is good quality, but not comfortable for me to wear on my belt.) There are better "one hand deployment" tools out there, and it is kind of pricey, but this full set of heavy duty high quality tools at a modest weight is important to me. I can see myself carrying this with me forever.

This is not a paid or compensated review. I've had the Spirit X for over a year and have been blown away by it's quality and craftsmanship. The price has gone up a bunch since then, which makes me glad I bought it when I did because I might not have pulled the trigger now at it's current price. I also have the Leatherman Wave, which has a few more tools and is cheaper and recommended over the Swisstool Spirit X by a well-known review website. For me, it's no contest--the Spirit X is by far superior to the Wave, even though it has fewer tools and is more expensive. From deploying the tools to actually using it, using the Swisstool feels natural and easy to work with. Using the Leatherman, on the other hand, feels a little bit like a struggle. The tools in the Spirit X are aligned perfectly and are deployed and retracted with a smooth action that ends in a satisfying snap to let you know it's locked. The only tool that deploys in the one you intend to deploy. With the Wave, I can feel metal rubbing against metal and hear a scraping sound when the tools are deployed and retracted. Because of the friction, sometimes a second adjacent tool unfolds partway at the same time. This never happens with the Spirit X. I will give the nod to the Wave for having a better and knife and saw. Having both a straight and serrated knife is also useful. The blades in the Spirit X are much more secure when they are folded for storage. With the Wave, the straight knife and serrated knife can be deployed just a little too easily because one-handed opening of these blades is a deliberate design. I've found them partly opened when the tool has been rattling around in my bag if it's not in the sheath. I also like that all the tools are accessible without opening the pliers on the Spirit X, which is not the case with the Wave. It's a little lighter than the Wave too, but that is explained by fewer tools and not a fair direct comparison. This may make it sounds like the Wave is horrible tool, which it is not. The Spirit X is just better and worth the premium price, in my opinion.

This is a great multi-tool! i've used gerbers, leathermans, etc. but this is the best. it's either my everyday carry multi or in my bug out bag... the fit and finish are top notch. after two months of use here's my thoughts... Pros: tools- well made and locking when in use (you don't want to have one fold up and injure yourself) pliers- can double as tweezers chisel point- can scrape anything or around camp you can do camp craft much easier and fine detailed... file- is good enough to remove burrs and and potential splinters scissors- are sharp and have a tight action (wife always uses them...) knife- i picked the X model because the knife isn't serrated and thus easier to sharpen (i carry the Fallkniven F1 for daily chores, and A1 for my BOB...) Cons: sheath- is good quality and tight fitting, but i got the rotating sheath that i can put on/off my belt using the clip (without dropping my pants) if you need more tools or other specific types then Victorinox has other models... can't find any faults or cons... if i need more tools i carry them in my bob or in my car or toolbox... a multi-tool should be well made, reliable, and balance the fine line between weight, form, and function (the Spirit X does this excellently!) (which also meets the criteria for my edc and bob items) i'm also a professional gardener and the tools are great for changing sprinklers, adjusting nozzles, clearing out valves, etc... the Spirit X would make a great gift item (i'm getting one for my wife) ...i love my Spirit X she's a beauty and wouldn't go anywhere without it...

I received exactly what I ordered. The sticker victorinox put on the end of the box said "53814" and "ST SPIRIT X PT". A little research on Sakwiki showed "53814 US Model: - Spirit "X" Spear-point blade replaces serrated blade". It came with the very nice looking brown leather sheath in the box. I had done my homework reading lots of info on the different models and this is exactly the one I wanted. I was very slow getting onto the idea of a pliers based multitool, I'm a loyal Swiss Army Knife fan for 30 years and just didn't think I'd like them, besides they're expensive. I felt like I was cheating on my faithful companion Victorinox, when I picked up a Leatherman Wingman last year that was 1/2 price but quickly found that I liked the piers of it! The wingman sold me on the idea but the quality of it's other tools while useful, just didn't seen to be up to the quality of the tools on my Victorinox Champion Plus. So when I was able to catch this Victorinox Spirit X at a lower price I hit the order button! I am not disappointed at all! Pros; All the blades are opened from the outside. The pliers are solid, no side to side wobbly feel like on my Wingman. The knife blade came sharp, but a minute or to on my fine Arkansas stone and it will cleanly cut strips off the edge of a sheet of copying machine paper! The scissors are different from the ones on my knife, but Victorinox quality is obvious. They work perfectly! Cons; There ain't any, it's a Victorinox! So it's now in my edc bag. My wingman is going to my 72 hour emergency bug out bag. This old dog learned a new trick! Years ago a old man advised me "save your money and buy what you want". If you're wanting a multitool, this is the one to save for!

Ho una Leatherman Wave da circa 5 anni, che porto sempre con me ma uso saltuariamente, diciamo un paio di volte alla settimana. Niente da dire come funzioni, ottimo prodotto, ma poco a poco sta facendo la ruggine, si sta ossidando (macchie scure quasi scavate) e alcuni inserti faticano ad uscire. Inoltre il filo della lama è rovinato (micro rotture, mai usato per tagliare cose dure, naturalmente). Ho un'altra Leatherman, non ricordo il modello, in macchina, e la uso un paio di volte all'anno: stessa cosa, sta arrugginendo e diventando dura. Un mio amico ha questa Victorinox, fa l'elettricista e la usa tutti i giorni più volte al giorno, da anni. La pinza non ha un graffio o un filo di ruggine, sembra ancora nuova!!! Dopo averla presa anch'io l'ho confrontata con la Wave, e devo dire che siamo li, una vince da una parte una dall'altra, però come funzionalità si equivalgono. Ma i materiali della Victorinox sono un altro mondo, l'acciaio è totalmente superiore. Unico neo la finitura a specchio, è scivolosa. Io avrei fatto il manico con micro zigrinatura, come tutti gli strumenti di lavoro professionali in acciaio. Vi consiglio, se la usate per lavoro, di prendere anche il set di bits con l'adattatore, avrete una piccola officina in tasca. La pinza ha la punta arrotondata e assottigliata, e quindi è comodissima anche per lavori su parti piccole. Utilissimo il fatto che tutti gli utensili contenuti siano saldamente bloccati, e si chiudano solo azionando l'apposito fermo di sicurezza. In questo modo è impossibile farsi male. E si può usare anche con uno dei due manici aperto, in modo da avere una sorta di prolunga che permette di raggiungere punti difficili. Aggiornamento del 8 gennaio 2014. Durante le vacanze di Natale ho avuto modo di stressarla al massimo. Ho tagliato grossi fili di ferro (quelli che tengono i pali di cemento dei filari di vigne, spessi a occhio 3 mm), smontare mezzo scooter di mia figlia, smontare e rimontare una pompa ad immersione industriale. La pinza ha fatto ottimamente il suo lavoro, senza riportare un graffio o un cedimento. Unica "mancanza" un cacciavite Phillips più grande sarebbe stato utilissimo. Ho risolto usando un bit USAG comprato per l'occasione, che si adatta perfettamente al porta bit opzionale Victorinox. Ad oggi, luglio 2019, dopo 6 anni di utilizzo quasi quotidiano, anche per lavori pesanti come smontare parti della moto, è perfetta. Quando è sporca la lavo con acqua calda e sapone, l'asciugo col compressore, una goccia d'olio nei punti di snodo e torna come nuova. La ricomprerei? Si, cento volte. Non è una spesa, è un investimento. Prima di aprire la cassetta degli attrezzi tiro fuori lei, e il più delle volte mi basta!!!

This is an Extremely well built multi tool. I have two other Victorinox SAK's that I have carried and used for decades: the first is an Alox Electrician that I bought back in the late 70's and the other is the Alox Farmer that replaced the Electrician as my EDC, about ten years ago, because of the saw feature that it offered. Both of my SAK's still function as well as the first day that I bought them and I continue to own and use them to this day. My impressions of the Swiss Tool Spirit X from the last three days is that it is of the same pedigree as my SAK's, if not better. ( EDIT: Sept 24/25. What I claimed to be a SAK Electrician is actually a SAK Pioneer - the "Progenitor" of numerous other SAK's, most notably the SAK Soldier and others such as the Electrician and the Farmer etc... etc. Bottom line is: a damned good knife is still a damned good knife regardless of how it's labelled. As you can tell from the photograph, I have dragged this particular SAK all over God's creation for decades and guess what? It's still a damned good knife. ) The Swiss Tool Spirit X is very well thought out, very well designed and extremely well built Multi-tool and I am so very happy that I changed my choice to the Spirit X. Originally, I was set upon acquiring a Leatherman Wave + as I currently have the Leatherman Surge and all of its accessories that I have can be migrated over to the Wave +. However, my recent experiences with Leatherman Customer Services had led me to re-access my choices. I could not bring myself to buy another Leatherman product and continue to support a company that clearly does not want my support. But, in all fairness, I must really thank Leatherman Customer Services for inspiring me to research the alternatives, which led me to my purchase of the Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit X - a much more refined and much better designed product that comes with a lifetime guarantee. I've been using Victorinox products for 45 plus years now and I've never had a problem with any of them - I cannot say the same for my Leatherman products.

動きはカチッカチッと小気味良く、各パーツのロック後のガタつきもありませんでした。 本体の形状も握った際に手になじみ、使い易いです。 ハサミが左利き用なのが気になりましたが、ハサミがある程度以上開かないように なっている事と、比較的に丈夫なバネで動くようになっている事からかも知れませんが、 右手でも、真下に押して使用すれば特に問題は無いのかも知れません。 実際に右手で、しつこく紙を切って使って見ましたが、今のところ不具合等は起きていません。 チャンプも使っていますが、パーツの材質がとても丈夫ですので、その点はことらも 安心して使えると思います。

Das Multitool von Victorinox ist top verarbeitet und sieht top aus. Alles ist maßhaltig und fühlt sich auch wertig an. Bedienung ist einwandfrei. Klingen sind scharf, die Zange sehr stabil und schließt sauber. Das Etui ist ebenfalls hochwertig verarbeitet. Tolles Tool für die kleinen Reparaturen zwischendurch ohne jedesmal den Werkzeugkasten zu holen.
