Penn 1292932 Fathom 25N Lever 2-Speed Lever Drag Fishing Reel, Black

Already own the same reel with a star drag. Bought this before supplies run out because a lot of guys are complaining about the Fathom 2. Did not disappoint. The lever drag 2 speed is a game changer.

Great reel for the price. Used for offshore So. Cal fishing. Excellent free spool, smooth drags, and easy to use 2 speed. This is the 2 speed model and is fairly light weight when compare to expensive higher end 2 speed reels. The reel is smooth and quiet, easy to cast live bait or jigging, or just dropper loop for deep water rock fish. Deep spool can handle ample amount of mono line or 50 to 65lb spectra. Narrow profile allows for comfortable fishing all day. I have 2 of these reels, 30lbs and 40lbs setups.

This is the third of this reel that I’ve bought. Initially got one for husband to fish grouper in the Gulf. He loved it so much he said I needed one. And then we bought an extra for my 92 year old Dad to use. This reel for the money is a workhorse! It makes reeling in a dandy grouper a piece of cake with two gear options, often surprising us with the size of the fish when it gets to the surface. Low gear really helps get those big fish started off the bottom and out of structure. Love to fish lighter tackle and this makes it possible.

I fish a lot. All over the world. Hooked a 40 Kilo Dogtooth Tuna on this reel (25N) and it performed exceptionally. Everything smooooth, solid, sturdy; this reel gives me a lot of confidence. After several trips and several Wahoo, Dogtooth, Black GT, Yellowtail, Yellowfin, Rainbow Runners, Spanish Macrkeal, etc, I can tell you I won't fish with any other reel if the rod with this reel is available. I also have the smaller size (12), but for fish over 10 kilos, you want the 25N. The narrow reel is sure nice for jigging.My one complaint is that the reel retrieves line so fast and so effortlessly while jigging that you sometimes burn your fingers on the braided line. If you are fishing for saltwater fish between 5-40 Kilos and you enjoy live bait fishing and jigging, this is absolutely the reel you want.
