Staedtler Watercolor Pencils, Box of 36 Colors (14410ND36)

I didn’t expect much from these pencils due to the cheap price, but I was extremely pleasantly surprised! I used these to help me speed up my painting process in my senior thesis, and they work perfectly. They blend beautifully, with no streaks left behind. The colors are vibrant and can be combined easily. These are great for both beginner and professional artists!

These wonderful aqua pencils are the best I’ve ever used in 30 years - my old treasured Aquarelles were wearing out - and they’d always chip and break when I sharpened them ( even when done by knife) but THESE NEW ONES have a white protector around the lead and they don’t break! Can really sharpen to a point too! Glorious colors and amazing good price!

Frankly, I am shocked at how wonderful these watercolor pencils are! For under $14, I wasn't expecting much, and only bought them on a whim due to the price for 36 pencils and the fact that Staedtler is a well-known, classic, German brand. I received them a couple of days ago. I used them on cheap sketching paper to do a model for an acrylic painting I'm doing. They lay down like butter, rich and creamy, and hydrate at full color with minimal water on the tip of a small brush. I'm shocked! I own Faber Castell Albrecht-Duhrers, Derwent Inktense, Arteza, and some random brands. These are easily among the best I have, and for the value, I have no regrets taking a chance on them. I truly could not be more pleased and will be using them often on better paper and for more complex designs. 5 stars doesn't go far enough! So glad I bought these! What a deal!!

The pencils lay down color well and blend well, although the included brush isn't too useful; it's so soft that it's kind of hard to control. I'm looking forward to working with these and learning more about watercolor work. I am concerned about the condition in which they arrived, though. As you can see from the pictures, they were beat up in shipping; they came in a thin cardboard box, packed in an envelope with no protection. The box of bandaids, shipped with them, tells the story. The pencils were knocked about so badly that points had broken off inside the box; which makes me wonder if the interior of the leads is broken too. That would mean they won't last very long. I hope Amazon rethinks shipping this kind of product without the protection of a box and padding.

For context: I draw and paint professionally and for pleasure. Steadtler always has great products. Steadtler makes a variety of products ranging from professional art supplies, hobbyist mediums, to professional supplies for architects and drafters. If you are looking for quality supplies that aren't super expensive but professional grade, Steadtler is the way to go. • The color fastness and richness is excellent. I have Prismacolor Watercolour Pencils that cost hundreds of dollars for a set and here guys perform just as well for me. In fact, I like to use them together with different techniques. • The package arrived in perfect condition and sharpened perfectly. This means you can open the box and get going. • Sturdiness: I have a heavy handed 4 year old daughter who manages to use them without the points breaking which is a problem with the more expensive Prismacolor pencils. Kids can use these too, as well as the budding or learning artist who still needs to develop their hand weight and application. Overall: months of use and still great. Highly recommend!

This is a great set of watercolor pencils. Very nice colors

The above picture shows them swatches of both the recent set combined with the graphite tint I got first. I usually use artist quality watercolors, I thought I would use these to develop sketches on the fly as they travel well. I tried colored pencils and feel so so about them. I love these they react beautifully to slight wetting also blend well . I am truly impressed. I find myself using them frequently.

These are among my favorite brand of watercolor pencils (and I have a bunch of different ones I've used over the years). The pigment is lovely when you apply water. I've got one set in my studio and one for when I step out to urban sketch. ♥♥♥
