Great quality, easy to use, and worked perfectly
This item is worth the price. The brand was recommended by our surgeon from Children's National Medical Cemter in Washinton DC and we purchased it prior to her surgery so we would have on hand. The shipping was fast. It's well made, thick vinyl material (think bouncy house material) won't leak or puncture. My daughter had bilateral arm and wrist surgery and we needed two of these. One arm was a regular cast, and the other was a bigger and thicker cast over a splint that was a full arm cast. I mention that, because I used these cast protectors in two different ways. Prior to ordering, I measured her arm circumferences at her upper arm to get the best fit. (This product is Smaller in circumference around the part that sticks to your bicep to create a watertight seal). Note. I did a lot of research, and I read to get the full arm protector even for half casts, as it just works better. I found this to be true. The most important thing is to measure the circumference of your bicep/upper arm, and NOT length. Purchase the item appropriate for circumference. Once you put on the long sleeve, you use a suction bulb to pump the air out and make a watertight seal around the entire cast. Think "shrink wrap".1. Normal half cast - even for a normal full arm cast, I recommend the "full arm cast protector". It fit over the cast well. There was enough room on the bare upper arm for the material to get a nice fit. The suction worked great and made a nice tight seal. Again, think "shrink wrap". It's how you know you are water tight. I've heard people even go swimming with these. We just used it for the shower, but I would have felt confident at the beach.2. The other cast was very thick, not a normal cast at all. as the cast was over a splint. Plus it was over the elbow by a few inches. But we still found a way to make this work. The cast protector was definitely long enough, but at its smallest circumference just wouldn't fit over this bulky cast, even though it was the correct size to seal around her upper arm. So, we actually took scissors and cut off the tight part of the cast protector. It was still long enough. We used waterproof medical tape to seal the cast protector to her arm, and then used the suction bulb and got that same watertight seal. It worked great for the shower. Now, that being said, I wouldn't have felt comfortable going swimming with the cut off version. But, it worked great for showers and baths. You do what you have to do.Bottom line, I am so glad we purchased these. They lasted for months, We still have them for the next cast. Worked well, and though a bit pricey, it's worth it. Great quality, easy to use, and especially with the normal cast, it was on and sealed in one minute, versus having to risk getting a cast wet and soggy with plastic bags sealed with duct tape.
