Great Formula... Until the Manufacturer discontinued it.
As a vegetarian, I wanted the same lifestyle for my pet.My Labrador Retriever was on Wild Earth’s original formula (“Complete Protein”) dog food for more than a year before the manufacturer chose to discontinue it. I used to brag to friends that Wild Earth was the best-smelling dog food ever. That all changed when Wild Earth decided to change their formula. Thus began my search for a replacement brand of dog food. For my purposes, I researched, shortlisted, and ordered 4 competing vegan brands. In my opinion, I will be evaluating my dog’s future food from three angles: scent, ingredients, and price. Why scent? You are what you eat, and you can tell a lot about food quality by its scent. (Next time you go to the supermarket, see if you can smell a difference between an organic peach fruit versus a conventional one.) Even if you don’t buy that argument, just imagine what your face would smell like once your pet licks you.In terms of best-smelling, Walk About Pet would be my first choice. Followed by Natural Balance as second pick and V-Dog as third pick. The fourth brand, Halo Holistic, has a waft that smells similar to Wild Earth. Perhaps it’s because they both have chickpeas in their ingredients, whereas the other three brands do not. With that said, I personally found that Halo Holistic smells like a bottle of prenatal vitamins. Perhaps its nutrition or vitamin content is high. Nonetheless, I cannot stand its offensive smell, so I dropped that brand from my shortlist.Looking at the ingredients, I dislike how Natural Balance lists Brown Rice as the first ingredient in its sequence, so I dropped that brand from my shortlist. (Why is sequence important? Because the first ingredient that’s listed represents the largest amount by weight.)On the other hand, I like how Walk About Pets has lentils as the 5th ingredient in its sequence. As a vegetarian, I understand that getting sufficient protein is a challenge, which is why I would rather buy dog food that has high chickpeas and/or lentil content. The numbers seem to match as well, since Walk About Pet advertises high protein (26%) and low fat (8%) levels.Lastly, in terms of commercials, while I found that Walk About Pet is less expensive than V Dog per pound, it’s less available commercially. For example, you cannot buy a bag directly from the manufacturer’s website. Also, as of time of writing, Amazon does not offer a Subscribe & Save option for Walk About Pet.Therefore, I will be choosing Walk About Pet as first choice for my pet. Then supplement V Dog as a backup if necessary. By the way, the V Dog sample that I purchased (in my photos) is mini bite sized. The manufacturer also sells a bigger bag with larger kibble size that has the same nutritional value.

Worth the money! Game changer for my girl!!
I have always been concerned about my pet's dietary needs. Reputable brands and quality ingredients are very important to me. I've often said they eat better than I do.In March of 2022, my Boston Terrier turned 7 years old. She started having issues with her bowels. She was treated at our vet 4 times within 2 months. She had terrible gas (which is normal for Boston Terriers, but not THIS bad), I had to constantly wipe her bottom after using the bathroom outside, she was putting on weight, her skin was splotchy and she seemed to be lethargic. My vet was concerned it could be stress, but also thought it might be allergies or maybe both. We started changing things to figure out what was wrong by process of elimination. He suggested we start with a diet change, informing me of the limited single source protein foods available on the market. While I was originally looking at going with a salmon diet, something piqued my interest about plant based. That's where I learned about Wild Earth. I was skeptical, but I decided to take a chance and purchase it. This food was life changing! Guppie's diarrhea cleared up, she lost weight and her energy level was back to normal. Even her chest area and belly skin cleared up almost instantly. I am a strict pet mom and do not allow any food outside of her food to be consumed. Mainly because it is so bad for pets to have human food, but also because of her sensitivity to outside foods. Even treats have been switched over to Wild Earth brand because her system freaks out with ANYTHING other than this stuff. When everything seemed to be going wrong with her, there is no way you could have made me believe this food would be the answer. I was skeptic turned believer.I am so happy I found Wild Earth. My mistake was feeding her like my cat, in the sense of high-quality meat. Cats need meat, but dogs do not. This was a new concept for me. It took not only research, but experience for me to believe it. My biggest concern was the food might work, but Guppie wouldn’t approve. Well, Guppie has been on Wild Earth for one full year now and she still looks forward to feeding time each morning and night. I highly recommend this food. It is expensive, but nothing compared to the money I spent at the vet last year. Plus, knowing how much she like the food makes me feel so good. A 17 pound bag lasts her about 4 months. She may still have the gray hair from getting older, but it's at least healthy shiny gray hair. :)

Life changing for my senior Boxer
I found this brand a coupon of years back. I have it auto shipped from the Wild Earth company but when In a pinch I order here as well. Our Bentley (10 y/o) female boxer was having trouble or moving around, squatting to go to the bathroom and just generally stiff. This all came about she she turned 8. We thought it was her ACL due to her limping and constantly injuring herself. We had scans done and due to another more serious issue we held off on the surgery. I had watched Gamechangers on Netflix and thought to myself.. if all of these benefits of healing injuries and joints with a plant based diet worked for humans maybe an animal would benefit. I found Wild Earth and within 2 months her life changed. She had more energy, could run out back without injury, could fully squat without shaking to go to the bathroom and more so she could jump onto the bed whereas my husband would literally pick her up for the year prior. It may not be for everyone but even my daughter came by and was shocked at the sight of her! She said “she looks younger!” We have kept her on this diet along with my 7 y/o chihuahua and have been thrilled with their weight control, over all health and blood test results. The vet is always shocked when I remind them she is on a vegan diet dog food but is always happy with her weight and health.
