Great Item!
I bought this for my husband. He is going on a mission trip to Peru. The item is small and can be taken easily without adding weight or being difficult due to size. The quality of this item is great! It is so small and compact that I was pleasantly surprised by the item when it's fully extended and put together. He hopes to catch food for the men while they are in the jungle. It will be a great addition to their trip.

Decent quality - lands big fish
The rod is not the best quality. Eyelet grommets have came loose & it doesnโt stay extended well. Changed out the line to 4lb mono & it casts well. I have pulled in 2 decent catfishes that I never thought this combo could handle.

Definitely recommend
We went on a last minute trip to St Croix US Virgin Islands. my son and I like to fish and since we rented a house right on the beach, I wanted to bring 2 fishing poles. I came across these collapsible fishing rods and figured Id give them a try. I bought two of the 1.4m length. very compact. easily fit in our luggage. Honestly, I was very surprised at how far I could cast with these little rods. Using a heddon super spook jr lure, I caught a barracuda from the shore as you can see in the picture. I was worried the rod would snap as I was reeling in the barracuda but to my surprise, it didnt break. It was worth every penny in my opinion. as a side note, a few times the line bunched up around the reel when casting. possibly user error. I did bring extra line just in case something like this happened.

Store bought homemade pen reel.
Most of the stuff I buy that comes from china is very poor quality or just entirely incorrect. Same with this pen reel/rod. The reel keep falling off the stock. I tried to force it in to the fixing foot. The foot got a small tear and the real kept falling off. The fixing foots would spin around and the reel go flying. The foot is too thick and wide for the fixers. I ground down the thickness of the foots at the tips and on top. I then applied blue locktight to the end of the rod tube. That seems to solve that problem. Next I'll put a small amount of silicone tape on the threads. Another problem was after all that the bail would not close when I trying to wind the reel it would lock and I had flip it shut with my little finger. After screwing with it for an hour it finally would shut but not very smooth. Next comes the BIG test, a real fish trial. If everything works ? I will chrome the filed edges and seal the small spot. Maybe the rod will not break and the reel does not disassemble it's self. A little too money for me to do a complete remake!

Cute novelty but not durable for long term use
I love fishing and I love travelling. Most of the time, I don't have the opportunity to bring any of my primary fishing gear when I go on vacation. So this little item looked like the perfect solution to just throw in a backpack or duffel and break it out when you find a cool little spot. And frankly, it does that really well. The 1.4M pen rod was a little bigger than I expected but it's still better than most other collapsible rod options out there. Reel felt decent and it was pre-spooled with neon green line. I can only assume it's 2# mono. Now unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to test this combo out because I ended up breaking it the first time I extended it. It's rather stiff at the connections and upon trying to compact it back down to it's pen form, the rod snapped at roughly the 2nd and 3rd eye from the top. I'm sure for someone who is very gentle with their equipment, this can be avoided. But under normal conditions, this rod may not last more than a few times of extending and compacting. When extended, however, it did feel like it could pull in at least a small bass or decent panfish. Anyway, maybe someone else would have better luck with it. I sent it back for a refund.

It Really Casts Well!!!
At first it looks like a novelty fishing combo kit, that's compact but probably less than stellar when it comes to casting and fishing. The guides on the rod are quite small in diameter, so when I tried casting I was pleasantly surprised that it is actually a very nice little rod. I could easily and accurately cast an ultralight spinner nearly 50 feet, and it has plenty of strength to reel in decent sized fish. It would make a great compact rod for fishing small streams or keep handy in a boat or canoe. It also worked well for kids, due to it's shorter length and small scale reel. Definitely worth every penny.

Broken tip.
After extending the rod once the tip broke.

Good, functional pole for the money
Having experience with collapsible poles, I know not to pull each segment out TOO tight, as it makes it very hard to retract. The reviewer who mentioned adding oil sparingly to each joint is correct. That's a good "tip". When attaching the reel to the pole, gingerly wiggle it, side to side, to allow for the keeper rings to firmly seat, inching the nut tighter and tighter as the keeper rings "mold" to the shape of the reel mount. Chinese tolerances are not very good so, do not force the nut. The nut and threads ARE sufficient to hold the reel tight to the pole for use. As mentioned in other reviews, the line will need to be replaced. It is monofilament and due to the extended time on the reel, has developed a "memory" and does not function. The reel is of a quality comparable to a Shakespeare Combo, found at any big box store. The balance of the pole, with the reel attached,, is very good.

Handy and Convenient
Really awesome product! Bought it for my husband who is an avid fisherman. He keeps it in his truck so he can fish little rivers or streams he comes across while our driving. Compact size, decent reel. Very happy with the product.

Handy little rod
Husband loved this, I bought it for him for our trip to Western Canada. He was able to fish along the Bow rivers edge, packed up nicely for his carryon.
