Fish of Wisconsin Field Guide (Fish Identification Guides)

I love to fish. Although I was born and raised and lived in Wisconsin until my early 30’s, I then moved with my husband to live in Northern California for 31 years. During that whole time, I forgot what fish there are in WI, where they are, and how to catch them. So I bought this book.I don’t know if I could quickly figure out what kind of fish I caught, looking at the pictures. I usually use a non-barbed hook and release. I’d have to put the fish in a bucket and leaf through the pages. The book shows a picture of the fish, gives a description, tells what other species are similar, gives the fish’s habitat, food, reproduction, average size, record sizes, and then gives notes. For example, under “yellow perch” is written “With simple tackle even inexperienced anglers can be successful at perch fishing”. The book is probably not totally waterproof per se, but its pages are coated, so splashing water won’t harm them. A superior helpful guide.

We wanted to teach our babies about the fish of WI for when we go fishing in the future. At 6 months, they love the pictures! Baby safe pages as they are water proof when they have their adorable teething spitty hands. I have learned so much reading this to them too! Great purchase!

The book is well written with large color pictures. On each page they show close up views of the fins to help identify them from fish that look close to that fish with examples of what to look for. It was easy to navigate through to find a particular fish you are looking for. It's nice that it's water resistant to help keep the book clean and dry. The book might be small enough to fit in your tackle box. I'm still going to keep it in a Ziplock just in case.

If I hadn’t bought used I’m sure my review would be different. I expected like damaged binding. Or bent corners. Instead a child got a hold of it and almost every page was colored on.

My 7 year old granddaughter wanted this for her birthday. We have her dad one a couple years ago, and she wanted her own. Pictures and good information on each fish. Waterproof so they carry in there tackle box. Interesting enough she uses it to learn and dream.

This is a nice introduction, with good illustrations of Wisconsin fish, which I'd recommend for beginner fishermen and younger folk. It is basic but good. This is not a treatise, or the go to for research, merely a go-to for basic fish identification. I recommend this to most folk.

This series has the best field guides I've ever used. Each fish has a large full-color photograph plus many details, including habits, size, etc. I bought the entire series for my home state of Wisconsin.

Bought this for my son who is teaching his 4 yr old how to fish. The book is small in size but the info and pictures are great!
