Beautiful. Read it.
I just completed reading Pigs. I didn't want to finish it. To prolong the end, I only read a page or two for the last few days. This morning I was ready to complete the story. I didn't like the world of the story - the island, the adults, even the kids. But, I wanted to find out how it would end. I expected something horrible, but was stunned by the ending and moved the tears. The dove. The story is simple, honest and human. The beauty surprised me. Looking out my window as I read the last pages, I felt I was in the story too. This beautiful world and my curbside waste and recycling awaiting pickup to disappear forever. Thank you Ms. Stoberock. I will be sharing this book with many on my Christmas shopping list. I want to talk with others about their experience reading this raw and beautiful story.

Fable for our time
this book surprised me with its power, but also just its compelling narrative thrust. I stayed up late finishing it. So many beautiful images and disturbing ideas are presented side by side, and they stay in my mind. The novel "preaches" because there is a clear message, but I didn't mind it at all. As in all fables, you can't read it and be morally neutral. I loved the Pigs and the dove and the strange little personalities of the children.

I was totally drawn into this carefully drawn world.
I soooo enjoyed it.It was really transporting... I loved the characters, the style, everything. There were sentences that literally stuck with me for long after I read them....these 2 in particular;"Maybe he could turn into a story teller instead of a straight out liar."also; "and of course, in their sleep, they had no way of apprehending their own closeness. "Just loved it.I can't wait to hand it to my partner!

Unexpected impact, flawlessly delivered
Stoberock has written a superbly crafted fable for adults that centers around children whose island world is constantly threatened by the environmental crisis of trash. Her visual perception is unique and comes across in apt yet surprising descriptions that help you see the world in a new way. Although not the same, the pigs bring to mind another memorable fable for adults--ANIMAL FARM. Like Orwell's classic, it's a mind-expanding read.

Couldn't stop thinking about it and had to finish right away!
I absolutely LOVED this book. Started off reading just a little. Then a little more. Then I woke up at 4 AM thinking about the characters and HAD to finish it. Thought I had the ending figured out, but I was sorely mistaken, much to my surprise and glee. I will make sure everyone I love has a copy for Christmas. Still can't stop thinking about it.

I couldn't put it down!
When I started reading this, I was just planning to read a little at a time, but I ended up taking it with me to work because I couldn't put it down. It's incredibly timely, beautifully written, and funny in strange and surreal ways. Stoberock writes with such precision, and with such restraint. A gorgeous, exciting, important novel.

Nice read, well crafted
As allegory, comparies nicely to Animal Farm. The notion of 'somewhere else' for our trash is nicely projected. Recommended read.

Riveting...subtly sheds light on our environmental challenges and our individual responsibility.
I loved it! It's a beautiful, brutal, sad, yet ultimately uplifting allegory of what the human race has allowed to happen to our world, ourselves, and our children. In addition to being riveted by the story, I was often surprised and enlightened by insights seamlessly incorporated into the narrative that I hadn't thought of before.
