How do you ensure that this head is level on the tripod? [Apart from trying to adjust the tripod legs, which would be ridiculous!]

If you want to level quickly, get the version (MVH-502A) that comes with a 75mm half ball and a set of legs that have a cup to receive the ball. If you already have a tripod and want to add a nice little fluid head for video use, put this head on your legs. It has a tiny bubble level to help. To level this flat bottomed head, pan the head until it's pointing between two of the legs, ignoring the rear leg to start. Looking at the bubble, adjust the left or right leg until the bubble is centered left and right. Now adjust the rear leg until the bubble is centered. Yep, slow and troublesome. That's why ball heads were so revolutionary in the 1070's.

For the MVH502 head with 75mm Half Ball, is it possible to remove the 75mm Half Ball (unscrewing it somehow) to make a flat based head 4 versatility?

do this work with some of the manfrotto dollies??

To tell you the truth I don't know. But I will tell you that the mid spreader BREAKS easily! It's pretty brittle. Had I known this before I would've saves up for Kesslers dolly kit instead, with a Hercules head
