Exceptional!!!
I can honestly say this compass easily exceeded my expectations by a country mile!Rather than some cheap, nasty plastic device, this is a heavy, robust & beautifully made instrument. It absolutely exudes quality, both with its fit & finish but right down to the damping of the compass itself & the surrounding bezel. It easily belies its price, being much higher quality than some units that cost several times more.It even comes in it’s own well made cammo’ pouch. It is so good in fact, I purchased an additional 3x units for my friends Christmas presents.Absolutely exceptional!

Looks a good product
Just received my AOFAR Lensatic Compass. It looks as good as the pictures. Its a quality product. The body is cast zinc and nicely finished in camo green. The rotating bezel is quality made with the glass and all numerals clear and precise. It comes in a camo bag plus instructions for use. The instructions are written in english although it is obvious that its a bit "pigeon" here and there. That said I'm very pleased with it. I'll be using it on my next walk(next week) so will see how we get on with it. It looks like it will last for years so hopefully I'll get some good mileage out of it.

Nice but heavy
Nice device, worked ok on Dartmoor recently but boy is this thing heavy, 300g.If you are into light packing, this is not for you. Ideal for kids to learn with though.

The quality is not good
**EDIT** DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK! After having this for a couple of months, the compass card came off the gimbal and jammed, making it unusable. Also one of the pins holding the closing bracket fell out and was lost. Rubbish quality.I bought this after having to return a cheaper model that looked identical but had major problems (the compass card was off the gimbal and the sighting window fell out as soon as I opened it). Apart from the branding and camo finish, this looks the same, but you can feel the difference in the firmness of the hinge when you open it, and the way that the clinometer needle has a sort of friction lock at the lower end so that it doesn't flap around when you are closing the lid. It's definitely worth paying the extra couple of quid for this model. The wrist strap and the little camo bag with Karabiner clip is a nice addition. The instructions are pretty comprehensive, although the translation is not the best, it has to be said. They do include sections on how to work out distances and elevations etc., but it would be easier to look for tutorials on the internet than try to decode the mangled translation. But overall, I'm very happy with this and my only regret is that I didn't buy this one in the first place!

Great customer service
Very quick delivery. When the first compass arrived my initial impressions were good. Solidly built and surprisingly weighty. Lovely feel and finish. However upon closer inspection the compass I received was defective. The compass card didn't rotate freely. It kept getting stuck and so rarely pointed north!Disappointing especially as everything else about the compass seemed very promising.Returned item with no problems and AOFAR customer service team got in touch offering a free replacement. Brilliant job. Can't wait to receive the new compass.

WARNING: This is not a military compass
Creating an outdoor product, then coating said product in a military camouflage does not mean that item is used by the military. This product is not used by the British Army. I would know. I currently serve in the British Army. It's very heavy. When you're next out for a walk on the trails, stop, find a rock that fits comfortably in your hands and place that in your rucksack instead of this thing. It will be the same weight and you'll get more use out of the rock. This product is made in China, that gives you an idea of the quality already. Obviously the instructions for this device are also translated in China, meaning they don't make much sense and there are a lot of spelling mistakes. If you venture onto the 'AOFAR' website you will also find no help in terms of operating instructions. In terms of the compass itself, it's not accurate. The compass bezel is nice a smooth, meaning you can rotate it to an accurate reading. Here is your problem though, and if this was a 'military compass' this would be a serious problem. When lining up the aiming sight and the aiming window with my navigational target I take my bearing which is fine, but then when I go to retake that bearing on the same target from the exact same spot, I get a completely different bearing which sometimes can be up 20 degrees in either direction. If you had to call in an artillery strike with a compass that swayed 20 degrees one way of the other, you can see the problems. Once again, this is not a military compass. My advice for people searching for an actual military compass, purchase the Silva Compass 4 Militaire and learn how to use Mils instead of degrees. It proves a lot more accurate than degrees and it works pretty much exactly the same as the degree system so its easy to learn.
