English Gardens: From the Archives of Country Life Magazine

This is a book of exceptionally well photographed English gardens. It is intended to show the wealth and variety of English gardens. It is a "what is" not a "how to" book. There are some notes regarding the history of various garden types, but the strength of this book is its many wonderful photographs. It is very attractive, large and could be considered a coffee table book.

This is a big, beautiful book! So big, you are going to have to find a special place for it. Like a dictionary, with lots and lots of color pictures. Just the thing to read on a long winter's evening, dreaming about the summer garden.

Okay, so I originally ordered this book to send on to my girlfriend's parents in late January so they could look at some lovely spring/summer images during a particularly gloomy Pennsylvania winter (yes, they could just image search "spring flowers" but they're weirdly tech-hesitant and only use like three specific websites). Well. They didn't end up getting this book until well into February! (don't worry; we sent others) My girlfriend and I spent a solid two weeks slowly, luxuriously reading this together, gawking at the photos and learning bits of English garden history. It's so very, very good.

I just got this book today so have only gotten a chance to flip through but it's beautiful. I've been looking for my garden "style" for a while but haven't done much at my home other than pull out what the previous owner had planted that wasn't to my liking. I recently planted some dreamy english roses and now have visions of an english cottage garden. This was a splurge but I can already tell I'm going to be marking a lot of pages with post-its of ideas I want to incorporate in my future dream garden. This is a big heavy book - like a college text book kind of weight - which defiantly explain the cost. Googling images for ideas is great but I'm the type that wants a big pretty color book to go back to over and over. I would recommend to a person who has big dreams of the english garden style.

This coffee table book is filled with beautiful garden scenes where one can get lost in day dreaming and after it brings a calm to oneself. The book is heavy. It worth it.

Purchased as a gift

A hefty and worthy splurge of the very finest garden porn. Gorgeous photography that allows you to enjoy every nuance of light, color, and textures within the gardens. Also well written stories and history of each garden. A book volumous enough to keep a restless gardener sane through a long New England winter. A worthy splurge indeed.

A little pricey but pictures are excellent. If you choose to find out measurements on something you see some are in there. It will take a long time to go thru and you get a workout from heaving it around.

El libro me llegó el 30 de junio'20 unos días después de la fecha más tardada (estimado entre el 16 y el 26 de junio'20). Esto no me importó por la situación del coronavirus y sus efectos. Muy entendible. Parece ser un libro muy bonito y acorde con la calidad esperada, sin embargo vino muy mal empaquetado. Le faltaba corrugado en 2 de los 6 lados del libro. Fue mucha suerte el que no llegara dañado, sobre todo en las esquinas, y siendo un libro caro. Por ello le puse 4 estrellas y no 5.
