Amazing
Cannot recommend these enough, they are fantastic. We bought an old house and found that with a single thermostat downstairs the rooms upstairs would frequently be at a significant differential from the thermostat, too cold or too hot. These things solve the problem beautifully, I can now set the temperature individually for every room, turn off heat in rooms that aren't being used and have customised schedules for all of them. There are some gotchas that can catch you out: 1) In the app if a valve shows that it's below it's target it will show the heating icon which indicates that it's requesting heat, however despite this if the current temperature isn't more than 0.5 below the target the main thermostat won't actually activate. This confused me for the best part of 2 hours, I went through many resets of all the hive devices trying to solve a problem that didn't really exist. It's very silly that it indicates that the valve is requesting heat when it really isn't, hopefully they will fix this at some point. 2) After initially installing them they need some time to calibrate and may not activate when it looks like they should. I found that deliberately setting them to high and low temperatures to trigger the activation helps to speed this along. I think for the first few nights they will open/close slower than they are able to as part of the calibration cycle. TL;DR if you think they're not working but the app reports everything is fine, it probably is fine, just leave it for a bit. Also I've noticed sometimes it looks like it should be heating one of the radiators but isn't, but if you touch the radiator it's already hot. I guess there must be some energy-saving duty cycle to avoid running the boiler continuously unnecessarily. 3) Leave at least a couple of radiators without these so water can flow freely. The bathroom and hallway are ideal candidates for no smart valve. Then just set the hallway manual valve to roughly halfway so that whenever any of the other radiators demand heat the hallway gets 50%. I've found this works really well. Home Assistant is also worth using as it lets you monitor all the smart stuff in the house and create automations based on events etc, and get access to all of the sensor data. These things are worth their weight in gold, I wish I'd got them sooner. Pretty sure they will pay for themselves over time too with all the insights into the system that I'm getting from the data coming off them, and the ability to not heat unused rooms. Being able to actually have the whole house be at the same temperature is so wonderful though and it's worth buying them just for that alone.

Perfect to control each radiator the way you want
I live in a 3 bed house and decided that while the kids are off to university to fit these valves to all of our radiators. Now, I'm not technical in the least with this stuff but if I can fit them and setup then definitely anybody can. Initially I only bought a few as they are not cheap but I did wait for deal time before purchasing them. Now the great thing about these is that where ever you fit a valve, you can essentially own everything about that radiator. You can put whatever heat programme you want. After initially buying a few of them, I ended up putting them on every radiator. The fitting is simple, your old valve screws off. This valve comes with 2 fitments, they will then fit straight on to your radiator. Before placing them on the radiator, you will need to insert the 2 AA batteries (supplied) in to them and then once placed (can be vertical or horizontal) you pair it with the Hive app. It's important to note in the app whether is placed vertically or horizonally. Follow the pairing instructions and after a few mins you're good to go. It really is as simple as that and then you can configure that valve till your heart is content. You can even had that radiator switch the boiler on just to heat it (called Heat on Demand) which we have set for just a few radiators in the house since not all of them are being used. I have had them installed for a year now and not had any problems yet.

They Work
I have Hive heating control so decided to buy a number of these and fit round the house. Idea being that during lockdown I didn't want to heat the whole house while working from home, as only the few rooms I needed. Do they work - yes they do. Fairly easy to set up individual schedules for each room in the house and the heat boost is a useful feature. Battery life is unknown at this point but they are 2 AA batteries per valve so no problem to replace. Ease of install - Following the instructions through the Hive app was simple and all fitted without issue. Little tricky to remove as the collar is hard to grip once installed. Calibration of the valves was a faff as needed to haver the heating on to complete, but once done no issues. Range of Signal - 1 room proved to be a problem and the valve kept on dropping off line. Moved it and the valve works fine so must be the signal. Hopefully a Hive range extender will solve. Overall pleased with them as they do what I need. Only downside is the price as doing multiple rooms the cost soon builds up - saying that I only bought them when on offer, not full price.

Pairs and works well with other Hive devices and app.
Cannot fault this trv as it paired quickly and appeared on the Hive app. Actioned it with a Hive motion sensor without problem. In dining room boosts temperature when presence detected and can either let more hot water through if heating is on. There is an option to turn the boiler on if heating is off but that would heat the rest of the house if the Hive Thermostat is satisfied. Despite the Hive Receiver going wrong and not working with the Thermostat, the trv and sensor were still online and working on the app and control the trv state. Unfortunately, calling for heating did not work because the Receiver was down. When a new Receiver was fitted, the trv and motion sensor automatically connected to it. Apart from the cost, I must recommended this device.

Many difficulties & substandard customer support
I bought 10 of these valves. Installation was fairly simple to start with although one failed to pair. Finally managed to pair it after many attempts. The rest of them paired fine but I got into more issues when it came to calibrating them. One of them failed to calibrate at all. I tried everything, checked the pin, used WD40 to loosen it, removed, reset, re-paired, re-calibrated. But nothing worked. Another valve kept getting an E6 error. Tried many times to remove, reset etc but the same kept happening. Another radiator seemed to calibrate fine and was working for a while but then started heating up when it was set to off (if other radiators were set to on). Spending so much time every day trying to calibrate the radiators meant that my heating was on pretty much constantly for days which has cost me a FORTUNE in energy (at a time when energy bills are high enough as it is - and defeats the object of buying them as my main reason was to try to save energy a little bit as well as having a bit more control over how I heat my home - neither of which I was able to achieve with them). I also have issues with the app when it comes to the radiator valves. I enabled Heat on Demand but the app is very buggy and sometimes it shows that HOD is enabled and other times it didn’t disappeared. The app is very clunky and not very customisable. No grouping of valves so you have to have a separate schedule for each individual radiator. There is also a bug with Actions in that if you set up an action to boost a radiator or a couple of radiators, it boosts them but sets the temperature really low so they don’t heat up. Overall the app is in dire need of a revamp (or rather being rewritten from the ground up). I’m not sure if the majority of the issues I experienced are due to the products or the app itself but either way, they need to do some serious work if they want to remain competitive with other brands. When it came to customer support, I spoke to one person on the phone who was rather dismissive and seemed like she couldn’t wait to get me off the phone. She said she’d done something to fix my issue (something about connecting my valves to the server) and told me to try calibrating again. Which I did. I then asked for more help after the calibration didn’t work (again) via the email she sent me, I got no response (still no response a week after I originally contacted them - I doubt I’ll ever hear back). Hive’s online chat never seems to be available and I ended up resorting to twitter to get help. This worked but it still took them 2 days to get back to me after my first reply. By which time I decided that I was sending the whole lot back so that I can use the money to buy another brand. Hive really need to sort out their customer services. Awaiting a refund before I can buy a replacement.

Hive Radiator Thermostat Valves
I recently installed the Hive Smart Heating TRVs, and while the setup was a bit fiddly, I managed to get them working fairly quickly. The installation guide was clear and straightforward, so that helped smooth things out, even if there were a few steps involved. Once set up, the TRVs synced up well with my existing Hive thermostat, and the app control is genuinely smart and convenient. It’s great to be able to control individual radiators from my phone, especially for managing the heating in different rooms without needing to adjust everything manually. One thing to note, though: the temperature reading on the TRVs isn’t an exact reflection of the room’s temperature. It’s more of an approximation, which I didn’t realise until after installation. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you’re looking for super-precise room control. Overall, they’re pretty solid value for money, and I’d recommend them if you’re after a high-quality smart heating solution with the flexibility to manage zones individually.

Just kind of OK
Bought 3 of these during Black Friday at £37.99 each - so just shy of £120 - do I think I'll save £120 of heating with these? No, but, we will eventually invest and install more to control as many radiators as possible and in hindsight, I should've got 4 & popped one in the kitchen. Installation is fairly simple permitting you've got the right fitment and don't require the supplied-separately adapters (more on that below) - simply remove the old, and pop on the new. Taking off the cover is a bit awkward, but, fairly quick - with a little button you press & then pull apart. Now, as for setting up, we had to run calibrate on one 3 or 4 times, and then another said it was calibrated and didn't - luckily, this still warms up fairly quickly. 2/3 set up VERY quickly in the app, but the living room (the one that needed 3 or 4 calibrates) didn't do anything for me - but fortunately, after killing the app & reloading it was there. Setting up schedules is easy, as you can copy & paste. We use the app with Heat on Demand, which allows it to tell the boiler to kick in (kind of like boosting) but will only do that radiator and any others without a Hive valve on - so for example, until we install one on the kitchen, all of downstairs turns on. In all, I think they're fine. They're doing what they should. --- Less product-centric comments: I can see a lot of mixed reviews, from 1 to 5 stars. A lot of 1 star seem to point out the customer service, which I'll be honest, I've tried to use & couldn't even get to a real person without having to cough up & call their premium rate phone number. Live chat was completely useless. Not including all adapters (which surely aren't that expensive) is awful - and yes, you HAVE to contact them for those so prey you don't need them. If you're looking to buy these PLEASE go check the manual first, find which ones do not come supplied, and then see if Hive can send them in advance or at least asap of you buying. Calibrating DOES take a long time and will crank the heating up insanely high. Did I get frustrated trying to get them to set up? Yes. Do I think it's a 1 star product? No. Do I think there's better out there? Of course, there's no doubt there'll be other options that beat this and if you have Alexa or Google Home you might find a better solution.

Why so many bad reviews?
I’m really confused by the sheer amount of bad reviews of this product. Sure it’s a bit steep on price and Hive stuff in general is more expensive then a bunch of cheaper alternatives, smart plugs, bulbs etc….but if you’ve bought the product then we can assume that you’re happy to spend the money… I’ve seen a few reviews that moan that when using the ‘Heat on Demand’ feature makes all the other radiators come on….this is ridiculous, of course it does, how can a radiator come on without the central heating being on and therefore any other radiators in the loop that are on. Fact is you don’t have to use this feature but no water based radiator in the world will heat up without the main heating being on. If you want that granular control you need to buy a valve for every radiator in the house and therefore you can control each radiator on a schedule so one radiators activating ‘Heat on Demand’ won’t result in them all coming on. Anyway, fitting the unit was a piece of cake, calibration takes maybe 2 hours but it does work, the radiator heats up to max output within 15 minutes. I am considering getting them for every rad. At the moment it is just for my daughters room who is 6 months old, I wanted her radiator to be on but only heat to a certain temperature so whilst we are downstairs with the heating on it’s not constantly cranking hers after a certain point. I would recommend this product, there are cheaper alternatives but if you have a Hive hub and you want one then get one.
