As of July 19 2023 this is NOT gluten free and includes: Rice, water, corn syrup, red pepper powder, salt, soybean, alcohol, wheat extract, soy seasoning(soybean, wheat gluten, salt, alcohol, yeast extract, maltodextrin), garlic concentrate, koji-starter

Does this paste have alcohol?

Fermentation does not necessarily produce alcohol. If there is ethanol in this product, I can't find it. I seriously doubt that the yeasts and/or bacteria produced any. It's a good product and lasts "forever" (over a year) in the refrigerator if properly covered after each use.

does this need to be refrigerated once it is opened??

I don't think I ever put mine in the refrigerator and it was fine. I figured there's enough vinegar and salt in it, so it shouldn't matter.

No it isn't. In my search, I have never found HALAL certified Gochujan paste. The best possibility is to purchase the gochujan pepper flakes, because it's only the flakes you bypass the alcohol from fermentation. Just so you know because someone misinformed in a previous answer, ALL ferments have naturally occurring alcohol Unless it undergoes a 2nd stage of fermentation for a vinegar ferment which eliminates the ethol alcohol.
