I admit that even with my old RX100, I used the Automatic setting almost exclusively. Having replaced that camera with a Sony RX10 IV and the newer RX100 VII, I felt it was time to learn to use other settings and functions. Because the RX10 was more complicated, I purchased Alexander S. White's book for that camera. For this neophyte, it was as if the light shone and I began to understand the camera could be more than a point-and-shoot. Having made that discovery and, upon discovering the menu system for the new RX100 was more extensive than the former menus, I purchased "Photographer's Guide to the Sony DSC-RX100 VII: Getting the Most from Sony's Advanced Compact Camera". The book has chapters on every aspect of the camera, beginning with photos and information on its various parts. Each setting and function is explained in separate sections of the book. One of this book's most useful features is that White specifically tells the reader the menu choice and the page within that choice where a setting can be changed or entered. Because Sony's menu system is so detailed, this saves frustration and time on the part of individuals who are new to Sony cameras or who are upgrading from a much older model of the same camera. White's book discloses many functions and options that I had previously been unaware existed. He explains things so clearly that even we, who are rank amateurs, can understand how to set and use the camera more fully. This book is one every RX100 VII's owner should purchase. It has helped me get more out of my camera and to take better photos. If you have a Sony camera, I highly recommend Alexander S. White's books on the various Sony models. Each is clearly written, very understandable, and worth every penny of its price. Review: REPLACE OWNERS MANUAL WITH THIS BOOK!!! - The Sony manual is 634 pages and is only available online. You can download it and print it out but it is very difficult to determine how to set up your camera unless you are a professional photographer. Alexander White has written an extensive guide to the Sony RX100 VII camera. He not only explains what the settings are but makes suggested settings. The menus on these digital cameras are unbelievably complex and confusing if you are not familiar with photography. Mr White has simplified it and breeaks it down to easy to understand explanations. If you own this camera, it is a must buy. I downloaded it to my phone and tablet. Carrying around the book made no sense. When I first read this book, I already owned the camera for a few weeks and had it in a very basic set-up. I was reasonably impressed with the book, but I jumped around to address different areas that needed addressing. The I started reading from the beginning and followed many of the settings. As I progressed I realized that the only way this book made sense to me was to start at the beginning and work my way through to the end. As a result, I now appreciate what a great illustrated guide this is to the Sony RX100VII camera. Alexandr White makes the owners manual obsolete.
