I had a different style of camp toaster last time, and it would burn the crap out of my toast if I didn't watch it carefully. This one is a winner! Plus, it holds 4 slices instead of 2 like my old one.We live off grid so we can't have an electric toaster. This is a great alternative. I mean, you could still burn your toast if you leave it on long enough, but it's way more forgiving than my last one. I also like that it folds pretty flat for storage.

I bought this to use with a camp stove and butane canister. It is as simple as it shows, you open up the wire bread holders, lock them in place. Then just sit it on the stove and put up to 4 pieces of bread on it. After a few minutes, flip the bread to expose the other side to the heat and bam, you have toast. The only downside is that even normal sized bread doesn't toast too evenly. The middle of the bread toasts fine but the edges don't get as done. Not a big deal but worth mentioning.

We have a similar one that seems to work better. This one seems like it doesn't have enough holes to do enough "toasting". The bread did firm up like toast would, but we have not been able to have the toast be browned, like you would expect. We are using it with a portable gas stove though, so maybe the burner is not putting out enough BTU. That's why I only gave it 3 stars.

Bought this with my fingers crossed, to hopefully make toast on the gas burner top in our RV - and it's great! Toast with my RV breakfast - yay! VERY lightweight and works as advertised. I have found that it toasts best with the burner on high; I started out with the burner on low, as the directions suggest, the 1st time I used it and it would have taken forever that way. On high, each side of the bread/bagel gets nicely browned in 2-3 minutes. Of course you'll want to experiment a bit on your own stove. You WILL need tongs to turn the bread (for toasting on both sides) and taking it off the toasting rack, and I also use them to move the hot rack off the hot burner to cool. It cools very fast. I would not use a very crumbly type of bread though - crumbs will burn if they fall on the base. I'm giving it 5 stars, although it can be confusing to fold/unfold the first time you use it. We won't use this outdoors; I'm sure it would work but it's so light I expect a moderate breeze would blow it away. I also can't address how fast it would toast over an open fire (set on a grill rack of course). But for indoor toasting, I'm very happy with this little device!

What the heck is this?I assembled and tried this without heating it up and burning off whatever finish was on the metal. I am sure it was not a good thing to smoke your initial bread with the chemical/smoke coming off of this toaster for the first time. Yes, I tossed the bread, and after several attempts, I tossed the product out the door. What a waste of money. POS, no stinking Bueno! CACA!I ended up cooking our English muffins directly on the cast iron skillet. This design is worthless unless you want to wait 5-10 minutes in a low-heat setting. Who has that sort of time?Save your money and frustration. Order another design. I did.

Finally something to toast my bread for breakfast when out camping. It is a trip the way it works. You put it on top of your burner and turn the burner all the way up. It takes longer than a toaster but it ends up toasting your toast.
