**2021 Gourmand Cookbook Award Winner for Japan in Spirits and Other Drinks** The Japanese Sake Bible is the ultimate book about Japan's national drink—from its history, culture and production methods to how to choose the best sake and recommended food pairings. Author Brian Ashcraft—the author of the popular guide Japanese Whisky —has put together lively commentaries based on dozens of interviews with master brewers and sake experts across Japan. His fascinating stories are accompanied by over 300 full-color photographs, maps and drawings. A unique feature of this book is that it includes reviews, tasting notes, scores and a buying guide for over 100 of the leading sake brands, written by respected Japanese sake expert Takashi Eguchi. These include all the sakes most commonly found outside Japan. Each sake has a photo of the label, tasting notes, a score and recommended food pairings. Information on the leading brewers is provided, and the sakes are grouped by flavor profile. Japanese sake is brewed worldwide today and is winning over many converts. A foreword by sake connoisseur and world-renowned DJ Richie Hawtin addresses the spread in global popularity and the shared mission of making this specialty beverage as accessible as possible. With the help of this book you'll soon become an expert in selecting, serving and enjoying Japan's favorite drink. Review: This book dives deep into the history and the artistry behind sake. - This book was very insightful and was a strong study asset in the certified sake advisor exam. Review: Who knew there was so much more to Sake! - I'm not good reviews, but honestly I wouldn't want to spoil this book to begin with. If you've ever had the opportunity to drink or at least try Sake; this is a must have if just to have that extra bit of knowledge about Japan's national and traditional drink. It took me a while to finally find the time (and mental peace) to finally open Brian's new book after having received it on release. I must say that I was not ready for how beautifully the book/chapters have been organized. The descriptions, the stories, the photos. It's so perfect. This is a book I will definitely pack with me on my next visit to Japan. I want to find and try ALL these Sake brands!

Informative book on sake
Gave this to my husband as a gift. The book is full of history of sake and the different types. We started to drink more sake over time and this book has been helpful to us in selecting the different sakes .. Sake is very under rated and hope that more people will read this and try some sake . It can b pared with many a meal & more.

Great, but I was sent a beat-up book
The information inside the book is fantastic, but the book itself? I just unpacked it and it's been fully bent into a wavy shape, there's a couple of tears all the way through the cover and one corner is bashed in. I mean, at the end of the day, I don't really care as long as I can read it. But I expected it to arrive in much better condition than that.

Perfect surprise gift for a sake lover
I gave this as a gift this year to a sake lover in my family. It was not on his wish list, but I took a chance and was thrilled to find he loves it. He has already found another sake he had never tried before and brought some home.

A truly comprehensive sake book.
There are quite a few good books for sake beginners that introduce concepts like how it's made, the different classifications, and the basic history. There are also very technical books that go into the chemistry and technical details of brewing and flavor. This might be the only book that is both. I've yet to encounter such a comprehensive discussion of sake-its history, its brewing, and the figures who have guided them both. You can start this book from zero knowledge and end up with an admirable understanding of Japan's national drink after finishing. It's a truly well researched, nearly exhaustive look at sake. It's not as technical (or difficult) as Gautier Rousille's Nihonshu, or as intimate as John Gauntner's Sake: The Hidden Stories, but exists as a bridge between them. The tasting notes at the end offer a look at many of the most important modern brands, but tasting notes are always exercises in subjectivity so don't get too caught up in them. Overall, this is a stellar addition to the English language sake library. Jump on it.

The "Go-To" sake book
I have been fascinated by sake for 30, five of which were spent brewing sake in Japan. This is a great book! My highest recommendation.
