Perfect for Mosin owners
Long version : This rifle is perfect for collectors of Mosin Nagants as well as people that own one or two examples of this line of rifles. Every marking is explained, every bit of history behind these rifles can be gleaned from this book. For example, would you be able to tell from the markings that your Remington M91 was captured by the Germans in WW1, transferred to the Austrians and then sold to Finland? Do you really not know much about Mosins and want to know what those funky letters mean and what the significance of an arrow in a star is? The rifle smothered in cosmoline you picked up for $50 at a gun show could be worth much, much more to a knowledgable collector. This book also covers disassembly of the rifle for cleaning and repair, it also contains vital safety information for any Mosin owner. This book is very comprehensive and no part, not even the buttplate screws, are over-looked, with detailed measurements and statistics for every piece of the Mosin rifle. Short version : if you own a Mosin, buy this book!

Great information on the Mosin Nagant rifle
Mosin Nagant rifles have been around since 1890, however thier development and origins have never been discussed in American firearms books. Until recently when the rifles started being imported to the US, they were mostly dismissed as being not as good as the German Mauser, or the US 1903 Springfield, so not worth mentioning. This book shows the variations, the strength, longevity, wide spread use of various countries manufacturing these rifles up until the 1960s. Probably more wars have been fought using this rifle than all others combined except the AK47. More revolutions, uprisings, World Wars, Civil Wars have been fought using this rifle than any other. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history, the development of firearms, the ways that different arms makers solved the problems of the day by development of the bolt action, magazine and clip development and other arms designs. Sometimes manufacturing techiques dictated development, sometimes the cartridge being used by the armies.

Must Have Resource
Whether you are a collector or simply own one Mosin-Nagant Rifle, this book is a must have. It is very enlightening with regard to the history of the development, manufacture and distribution of this historic rifle. The information on the various markings and data stamped on the various parts of the rifle is very valuable and just plain fun to research. With a field stripped Mosin on your work bench or kitchen table and this book open on your lap, you can pass a great deal of time gleaning information about your rifle's history. The reader should keep in mind, however, that this book is not the difinitive word on the Mosin-Nagant family of rifles. I have been cautioned by other authors to always keep in mind that millions of military firearms were manufactured by contractors, sub-contractors and rebuilt and modified in authorized armories. The information in the books is based on the actual observation of a few thousand and maybe even just hundreds of firearms, This leaves plenty of room for many unobserved variations that could be original to the firearm.

Excellent source for Mosin-Nagant information
This book is chock full of information on the Mosin-Nagant. We have all searched endlessly on the internet, scanning and searching for information (and often finding mis-information) which has given all of us conflicting information. This book contains a lot of information I have not found anywhere else. I have also read the Author's book on the SKS family of carbines, and this book has the same level of detail I have come to expect from him. I will be buying his AK-47 reference book in the future!! Being an owner of two Mosin-Nagant rifles, I was able to identify the country of origin on my rifles, and will be able to identify even more information once I take apart and clean them in the near future.

This is pretty awesome
I picked up a couple of Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifles and started doing the whole internet search before I actually did buy them. There is a TON of information online for free and probably just about everything in the book too. BUT this book is filled with tons of information, pictures, diagrams, stats and much more all in one place. A lot of the places online would also reference this book or say something like..you should get this book. Also the book is very easy to read and find things. Fun reading on the different types of Mosin-Nagant rifles. I suggest this book to anyone that picks up a Mosin-Nagant and wants something else for their collection.

The Mosin-Nagan tRifle,6 th Edition is a must!
The Mosin-Nagant Rifle, 6th Edition is a must for anyone who is a student of firearms and/or for collectors of these fine rifles. The book is well-researched. Any information required about model, country-of-origin, manufacturer, specifications, etc. can be found in this book. If you plan on collecting Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles and carbines, you must get a copy of this book. For the advanced collector, you need this book to keep from buying a lemon or rifle that is being presented as something it is not. Very easy to read and straight-forward. The information is easy to find and there is not a lot of verbiage to pick through to find what you need. Highly recommended!

Great Overall Guide For Collectors
I got my 1927 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon Rifle a few weeks ago and I had to get this book to find out about the history and development of this historic rifle. Mr. Lapin goes into exhaustive detail about all aspects of the rifle: history, politics, development, manufacturers, arsenal marks, different models, slings, bayonetts and he even includes a guide in the back of the book with the Russian alphabet and Russian and Finnish words and phrases which appear on Mosin-Nagant rifles and carbines. This is especially helpful when attempting to decipher the Russian words stamped on the barrel. A must-have for the beginning collector!
