my cats were older and with some health problems were already getting picky with their food. They did enjoy this in the beginning. It’s like a pate, smooth chicken flavor, but like anything else they eventually would get sick of it as long as you rotate it with other foods it can fit in. This is also good for cats that are in the beginning stages of like kidney disease, which one of my cats is and it’s cheaper than buying the real expensive kidney food from the doctors so long as you mix and match it works

I bought a case of this wet cat food for my cat after he nearly died from kidney failure after eating ant bait (Terro liquid ant bait is NOT safe for cats!) because it was recommended on a veterinary site for cats with renal vulnerabilities. I fed it to him and his (biological) sister. They both seemed to like it, but two days later, they both began to have explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea. He had it less severely than she did, thankfully. When she had it, the exploding sensation scared her, so spewed diarrhea as she ran hysterically through the house, spraying diarrhea on walls, carpets, and somehow even on the ceiling. I just happened to be away for the evening, so my poor teenage son and his dad (my soon-to-be-ex-husband who still lives with us) had to clean up the house. My son said it was a nightmare and the stink was everywhere, making him want to throw up. Amazingly, it was all cleaned up, including the cat who my husband had to take into the shower and hose off. He'd quarantined her in the bathroom. I switched her back to her regular wet food at the next feeding, but I had to keep her in the bathroom for four days until her diarrhea ended. Her brother (who'd originally eaten the ant poison) was able to avoid quarantine because he kept his diarrhea in the little box and it ended much sooner. So the bottom line is that this product really upset the GI tract of both my cats, although one much more than the other. I still have the rest of the case and don't know what to do with it. I hate to throw it out, but I don't know if it's okay to give to a shelter. I'll probably err on the side of caution and empty the cans into the trash and recycle them. Unless you have a better idea?

This is worth a try if your cat has ckd. I read the list of ingredients and consider this a better solution than the prescription foods by far. I do have to add some water--a little into the food and a little more to make "gravy," and it took a bit of patience to get my cat started on it, but he eats it happily now. Vet says such a diet is necessary for him and this is the best that I can find. ( Wish it were organic!)

Well, I read the other reviews and yes this food is very dry.....I, too, thought maybe I had a can that had gone bad and smelled it (smelled ok and my cat would tell me if it was really bad), looked at the expiry date and it was a year from now.....Now I've just started adding pumpkin to her wet food anyway because she vomits (kidney disease may be in her future but for right now she's not there but that's why I had kidney food around...thinking first testing indicated kidney issues - crystals, etc.) and now we're looking at intestinal issues. So I add pumpkin and then water to get to the soupy goupy consistency she likes.....Well, she inhales this food - both the pork and now the chicken.....and last night for the first time since I've had her (8 years, she's about 12ish) she went back for another nibble of what she'd left (not much). Four stars for the consistency.....Surely Dave's could change that - no?

My cat has CPSS and needs a low protein diet. This food is great for him in conjunction with a low protein dry food.

When my cat was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, I was devastated. I worried about her life expectancy, and quality of life, and how I could do right by her. I was aware of the... less than stellar ingredients in standard commercial cat food, and prescription diets don’t usually get better. I scoured lists on the internet, and went to my local pet supply stores for a list of (WET) cat foods that were intended for cats with kidney problems. In my experience, this is the best balance of ingredients, quality, and nutritional requirements. I recently took her in for a checkup, and was told that there was no indication of kidney problems, despite having been diagnosed through a combination of ultrasound, blood, and urine. Of course we will be seeking a second opinion, shortly. This is NOT a miracle cure or anything, but she’s happy and healthy, which is all I could ask for. I will update with the second opinion after we get it.
