This microplane is able to do its primary job, which is zest citrus and shred food. It has a stiff aluminum blade that extends out a little less than a foot, and the razors are sharp and efficient. The stiffness and the shape of the aluminum is idea to keep the blade from buckling under any pressure you might put on it. and it's fairly easy to pull out any material that might have gotten caught underneath the razors. It works like a charm for getting any kind of zest although the best is grating garlic on this thing. You can do a knob of garlic really quickly and you get a wonderful, fragrant heap of pulp. If you need finely diced garlic or pulp, a microplane is excellent. It does ginger pretty well too, athough it's always kind of hard to grate ginger because it's so fibrous. And it does hard cheese really well. You can get long shreds of parmesan by pushing down hard on the zester and a more gentle touch will give you finer, snowy cheese if that's what you want. Your fingers also won't get caught too easily in this thing, which is great. I can grind down a clove of garlic to the very end and not worry too much about sausaging my fingers. I'd still be careful though. I've had a for a couple of months now and the razors show no sign of dulling yet. Customer support is probably pretty good, i haven't had to reach out to them for anything. But one really nice touch is that the send you some tips on how to use the Deiss PRO zester and cheese grater. For one thing, they suggest oiling it a little bit before using to help material slide through the razors more easily. It's a really good idea and makes clean up really easy. 10 of 10 would recommend.

I saw Chef Jean-Pierre demonstrate how to use this type zester (not this brand) and I wanted one. I found that the orange rind (zest) clumps in the channel and is held in a single lump by the curved edges of the zester so that the grated rind does not spill out into the batter, I have to push the lump out & then it does not distribute evenly over the batter. I would like to grate the rind evenly over the batter. So then I ordered another Deiss brand of zester that is wider and flat with square holes (not curved) and without the curved sides, so that it lets go of the orange rind or cheese better. However it seems that the tiny holes are what contribute to making the grated food stick together. I don't see the value of this curved edge type of zester because of clumping and not releasing the fruit-rind or even the cheese. However, this zester is sharp and seems to be made of good material and it grates quickly and easily, albeit so long in size which seems unnecessary. It's easy to clean and comes with its own brush for getting into the holes. Has a protective cover that is placed over the sharp edges. I gave it 5 stars because it works as intended and the quality is good.

I’ve had this for 9 yrs and it still works great! Still very sharp and no rust. I’d buy again if I needed one but I still use this regularly. If u want a good zester this is it!! A picture to show you after 9 yrs no rust.

Does the job well. Comes with a little brush that helps get the shavings down. Use it so the shaving collect into the back. I use a fork to stabilize the food pieces as to keep my hand safe. IT IS SHARP!!!!! Easy to clean, as well.

This tool is seriously sharp and does the job almost effortlessly. It works wonders on citrus zests and grates garlic cloves into the perfect paste. The blade comes with a plastic shield which I highly recommend that you use when the plane is not in use. The shredding blade will take your knuckles off if you do not use it carefully.

At last somebody made a simple kitchen tool that flat-out works even better than described! Sometimes it's the basic hand tools that make the job so much easier. Flashing LED's and digital displays are OK, but it's the simple, well-designed utensils that really make a difference. When Deiss advertises this grater as sharp, they do mean SHARP! As the saying goes, however, a sharp knife is a safe knife. I've used many different grating tools over the last several decades (yeah, I'm old. . .) and this one is the best yet. Sharp enough to grate fresh ginger, but easily controlled to zest a Meyer lemon without touching the pith. You can rest it over a bowl, or use it like a file, depending on your preference. Both ways work very well. In the past, we've used a rotary grater for hard cheese - - but that requires cutting the cheese in order to fit into the hopper. With this, merely shave off what you need directly over the serving dish. No knife, no cutting board, no mess. And, it does indeed rinse clean for most tasks. With a semi-soft cheese, a quick pass or two with a dish brush is all it takes. The sheath/guard it comes with isn't just a flimsy piece of plastic designed primarily for shipping. It firmly snaps on and off, allowing you to safely store it in your utensil drawer without fear of damage. (The handle does have a large hole for hanging as well.) Excellent design, quality construction, and a bargain at this price. Most zesters are merely gadgets - - this one is a professional tool. You'll look for reasons to use it!

Ho acquistato questa grattugia Deiss PRO e ne sono davvero soddisfatto. La lama in acciaio inox è finemente affilata e permette di grattugiare facilmente Parmigiano Reggiano, limone, zenzero, cioccolato e altre verdure o frutta senza fatica. Il manico ergonomico giallo è molto comodo e offre una presa sicura anche durante un uso prolungato. Mi piace molto anche la protezione trasparente per la lama, che la mantiene al sicuro e igienica quando non la uso. In più, la spazzolina inclusa è perfetta per pulire bene la grattugia senza rovinare la lama, e il tutto è lavabile in lavastoviglie, cosa che rende la pulizia molto pratica. La qualità complessiva è ottima, si nota il design tedesco ben studiato.
