Great quality build and original sound!
OMG! I'm loving this! When I was growing up in the 70's, my family had a red version of this phone and when I saw this on Amazon, I had to get one. I'm so happy with my purchase. It looks, feels, and more importantly, sounds just as I remembered! There is nothing flimsy about this phone. The chassis is a good quality build, nice and heavy. The handset is slightly lighter than the original phone in the 70's but that takes nothing away from it. The rotary dial isn't as tightly wound as I remember the original being, but again, this is not an issue, as it is adapted for pulse tone. There is also a # and * on the dial for use with telephonic menu options, i.e banks, etc. This has the actual bell as the ringer, which threw me straight back to the 70's when I first heard it. Loved it! There is an ON/OFF switch for the ringer and you have a choice of Normal or High for the ringer also. I keep mine on High, just because I love hearing the phone ring throughout my home :) The sound quality on the line is great. No distortion, no crackling and those I've called on it, have said that they hear me perfectly clearly. I also have a cordless phone plugged into another socket and there is no interference with either. GPO have made a quality product that I'm happy to recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying from this brand.

Some numbers not working when dialing out 3 and 8. Returned. Bought identical one
I love this beautiful red retro landline phone. I received calls without problems and could hear people who called me better than on my previous modern landline phone, the line was very clear. I did not test it till a few days after being received when I had to make a call. Every time you dial a specific number there is a noise, I did not a noise that for number 3 and 8. As a result the number was not recognised and would not dial out. Yet when I dialed out the same number from my mobile it worked perfectly. If it had worked I would have kept this beautiful red retro phone but it is no use to me as it is. Amending this review 2 days after return to say that I have been told I have to wait up a maximum of up to 14 days from the day I returned it to get a refund. After enquiring as to why it has to take that long to be refunded I was refunded sooner. Amending on 16/02. Bought identical phone as loved 1st one that did not work to give it another chance. I paid for that second phone. I paid for the first one too and got refunded as faulty. This second identical one seems to work. I have noticed that when I dial out all numbers work ( # too. Have not tried the * yet ) the noise it makes when dialing a number is a lot faster than on the previous one. I suspect the issue with the first one was mechanical. I hear very clearly while I am on the phone on this one. I posted some photos, it is a gorgious red. The phone line is red and supposed to be connected to the phone but as I have a call blocker I have to connect it to the call blocker instead.

As close as you can get to a 746 phone, that works on modern lines.
To be honest, our Landline gets little use, being there as much to carry the Broadband as anything else. No need for anything fancy, or expensive, with Caller Display, Answering Machine, or any other of those fancy 'Features' you get on Modern Phones. Boss Lady suggested we get something that was as much a feature for the room, as much as a utility, and this is what we ended up ordering. A Phone that you can make, and receive, calls on. Nothing more, nothing less. Now to the Phone: Simple to 'set up'. Plug the handset into the Base. Plug the Line-cord into the base, and the socket adapter, plug that into the socket. Simples! Weight. Feels a lot lighter than the original 'real' models, but guess that is due to the electronics inside, rather than the original mechanism to generate the pulses. Use. How complicated is a Dial - unless you have fat fingers.. Like me. Only slight issue I observed is the risk of double dialing a digit. Unlike the original models, the number you dial is triggered by the movement of the stop bar when you get to it (which on the original mechanical models was fixed). There is a slight chance, if you have fat fingers, like me, of managing to use the digit twice (which I did), but if you have the handset to your ear (which I did) you will hear the tone for the digit being selected twice, so can abort the call, and start again. Overall, very happy with it, in as much as it is a functional ornament, as much as as primary telecommunications device (our Mobiles are for that).

Just like the old days
This took us back a few years. We were a bit more excited than we should have been. Looks amazing though having bought the black it might be a nightmare for fingerprints but it's worth it. Definitely lighter than the originals but still sturdy and doesn't look cheap. Ring is very similar to the old phones and a good volume. It comes with the necessary lead and adaptor if needed for router. (We only found the adaptor after going to 6 different shops to try and buy the correct lead, so make sure you empty your box!) We have a buzz on the line when talking which is a bit frustrating but I don't necessarily think this is a problem with the item. If you can get past the buzz the actual voices are clear and louder than our previous modern phone. Hopefully the buzz will sort and it won't be the actual phone but other than this 10/10.

Retro classic! Just perfect!
So when I was little my parents had a phone like this, when they upgraded the house phone I had their old one in my Wendy house, to have a working one which brings back so many childhood memories is fantastic!! I will say there are two options like and normal- I’d recommend the loud. It sounds bloody fantastic just like they used to!! I love the coloured wire, it matches the phone nicely. I got the red one- my husband says it’s like the bat phone! We are both pleased with this buy!!! The phone itself is lightweight, the old ones were much heavier but it makes no difference to the quality of it. Great statement piece and a lovely addition to my hallway, I really love it!

GPO Telephone (Grey)
We had the original GPO 746 in red back in the good old days. These new versions may not be as they originally were back then but they are the officially approved GPO phones made by GPO. Mine arrived today & if like some customers have said its lightweight and not as heavy as the originals then this new updated version isint far from it. My new phone seems just as good as the 1970s originals. The quality is very good and the only main differences is the ringer is slightly different to the original but still loud enough for me to hear over tv's etc and the dial has had the hash & star added to it. I've bought the grey phone & I've tested it myself with no problems (all functions work) I can dial out to make calls including mobiles and receive calls . I have no difficulty hearing any callers and if I need to dial a single number for automated services etc then there's no problem as you can do all that with this phone. It looks great and I'm very happy with my purchase. It arrived in perfect condition very quickly. I'd highly recommend this phone for everyone who had the original back in the day or anyone who missed out the first time around. We'll done to the GPO.🙂🙂

Disappointed
It looks fabulous, sounds fabulous but I found it NOT compatible with modern tech. It doesn't ring mobile numbers. I can hear a caller speak but they can't hear me.

Works well
Well it works and it looks the part, but the rotary dial springs back way too fast and it feels really light, so light it moves easily while dialing, so in an attempt to fix the rotary dial speed I took it apart and was immediately disappointed with what I saw. Here is the an original rotary and A picture of the one I received.
