It works, but it takes effort and patience
The instructions in the box are very basic, so I googled the instructions for similar products. This is what worked for me:1. While in the shower, I pumiced my soles and used a foot brush on my toes and the tops of my feet.2. I got out the shower and then soaked my feet for 25 minutes in warm water with Epsom salts, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and a squirt of liquid castile soap. Steps 1 & 2 soften the feet, remove superficial skin, and increase absorption of the exfoliating solution.3. I then dried my feet -- you don't want water from your feet to dilute the exfoliating solution.4. The so-called exfoliating "socks" are just thin cellophane packets, so be careful when putting them on. I also put ankle socks over top of them to keep them in place.5. I sat upright with my feet flat on the floor because I wanted my feet submerged in the solution. I kept the socks on for 1'15". If your feet start to burn, then only wear them for the recommended 1 hour.6. I rinsed and dried my feet, and moisturized them as usual. The instructions say to remove your nail polish, but I didn't. The solution faded the color a bit, so I just added a fresh coat of polish after exfoliating.I did not get any peeling until Day 6, when I noticed a bit of peeling on the underside of a few toes. I immediately gave myself another 25-minute Epsom salt/cider vinegar/castile soap foot bath. Most brands recommend that once the peeling begins you should not use any moisturizer, or at most a lightweight oil-free lotion, because moisturizer can inhibit the peeling process. However, I have extremely dry skin, so after the foot bath on Day 6 I dried my feet, slathered them in cocoa butter as usual, and put on ankle socks. Two hours later I took the ankle socks off and there was a LOT of peeling skin that was easy to remove. It seemed that the cocoa butter had softened the skin and enhanced the peeling process, not hindered it. However, everyone's skin is different, so use your own discretion regarding whether or not to moisturize. Moisturizer worked for me.Once the peeling started, I did a 25-minute foot bath 4 days in a row until the peeling completely stopped. My feet never looked disgusting in public because after doing the foot bath, using cocoa butter, and covering them with ankle socks for 2 hours, the skin easily rolled off by rubbing with a dry towel and gently peeling with my fingers.IMO the foot baths are critical. In fact, if your feet haven't started peeling by Day 5, I recommend doing a foot bath because it will probably jumpstart the peeling. Or you can do a 10-15 minute foot bath every day starting on Day 2. Frankly, the foot baths are a bit of a nuisance, but the results are worth it.I initially thought that $18.50 was a bit steep for these "socks," but considering that pedicures in my area start at $35, it is cost effective. I plan to exfoliate my feet at least every 2 months to keep them in good condition.

Worked on old feet, and was re-used
This product definitely made my 71-year-old soles peel.In each of the thinner skin areas (arches, tops of feet, tops & sides of toes, upper sides of heels), thankfully only a very thin layer peeled. (It was similar to peeling a layer of Duco Cement from my palms as a kid.) On the thicker-skinned, problematic areas (balls of feet, bottoms of heels, pads of toes, and the underneath areas where the toes join the foot) - where I needed it most - thicker layers peeled off. None of the peeling caused any discomfort.I had healing blisters on the backs of both heels when I used the product. One blister was still not completely closed and - despite the warnings - I applied the peel anyway. There was a slight burning sensation when the alcohol came into contact with the raw skin, but it was expected, short-lived, and completely bearable. Both blisters peeled very evenly and in nice, concentric circles starting with the outer edges, thanks to this product. The slippers' closing tabs (tape) did not work for me. However, since you are instructed to place a pair of your own socks over the gel-filled plastic slippers, there was no problem with the slippers leaking or sliding around.Although the directions instruct you to discard the gel-filled slippers after a single use, I sealed each slipper with a strip of masking tape and used them again in 5 weeks. They worked just as well the second time around, and I plan to try it a third time in another 5 weeks or more....I did not really need to use the gel-filled slippers again in only 5 weeks - I just wanted to stay ahead of the ugly, age-related skin-thickening process. Before each treatment, I took a looooong, hot bath and applied the gel-filled slippers immediately. I also wore the slippers well beyond the one-hour suggested period, since my feet were in bad shape. (They thicken and crack on their own - and I can peel off layers in certain problem places.)Bathing (v. showering) during the product's peeling process - which takes about 3 days to complete itself, once it's begun - also probably aided in the dead skin removal. Layers simply rolled off nicely when I scrubbed my feet. Nevertheless, my feet were not sandal-worthy until approximately 3 days after the peeling began. There is about a 5-day period of ugliness, beginning approximately 4 -5 days after the application: first, the feet resemble brick walls (where the soon-to-be-shedding areas are starting to crack into small segments) and later, when thin hunks of skin are hanging off the feet.I will buy this product again, when I stop re-re-using the original, and I would recommend it to anyone with thickened soles. The peeling created by the gel was much more pleasant and attractive than my forced peeling (which sometimes ended in blood) of my thick, cracked soles.
