Little difficult to set up but works well.
I have had this Thermostat installed for a week and here are my initial impressions. Once set up properly it works as exactly as it should. I am giving a 5 for the function of the thermostat. I would give a 3 for set up as it could be easier. Setting up is not too difficult if you are moderately technically inclined. The toughest part is not having a good overview of the entire set up. No manual and all instruction is through your smartphone. Wiring worked for me first shot. I set up the software by trial and error which can take more time. Geofencing For the first few days I only set up one smart phone to make testing the geofencing easier. As some of the other reviewers have stated you need to be aware of where your address lands on the major mapping sites. Adjust the address to match where your house actually lands on the map. They have updated the geofencing to 1/4 Mile, 2 Miles, 4 miles and 7 miles. I could really use even smaller than 1/4 mile as my wife has a dog walking business in town. She is out sporadically for 2-3 hours at a time and maybe within the 1/4 mile fence. Fortunately we live on the edge of town near the train tracks which we cannot cross without going way outside the geofence. I actually adjusted the geofence center over the train tracks 1/4 mile from our house. It works consistently as we pull with 200 feet of our home it is set to "home" which activates our normal setting. The geofencing seems very precise and we are just catching the last 50-100 feet of the fence with our home. Events The thermostat set is entirely "event" based which is easy but takes some getting used to. Any event that occurs will update the status of the thermostat even if it is already set the same or it occurs at an odd time. One limitation to this is the "Sleep" event which I initially set to 10PM. If you are out after 10PM come home through the geofence it will then set to "home" which will not be your setback temperature for the night. I got around this but adding multiple times (very easy to do) to this "event". So now we "Sleep" at 10 PM, 10:30PM, 11PM, 11:30PM...etc. If we happen to come home at 11:15 PM the thermostat will go "Home" but then revert to the sleep temperature within 15 minutes. Software setting You also need to change the default "home" and "away" setting if you want to use the geofence. Change from "when I press short cut" to "Someone is home" or "Your House is Empty". This got me for the first few hours as the geofence was not activating. Overall it is exactly what I expected. We could not use the Nest or Ecobee 3 as we have dogs in the house and I was afraid they would set off the motion sensor. I did wonder why all these thermostats are not somehow using the the wifi to sense you are home. If your smart phone is on the same wireless router as the thermostat you could assume you are home. This would be much simpler than geofencing although for those that have longer distance travelled you could not trigger your system 7 miles out.

Terrible Product, Failed WiFi, No Tech Support!
I initially has some issues getting this thermostat connected to WiFi, but finally got them ironed out, so I thought. I don't use the thermostat much but when it finally got cold enough this December to turn it on, it could not be accessed. Fortunately, I could still operate it manually but the WiFi was disconnected. The Honeywell app showed it as offline. It had initially taken dozens of attempts to connect to WiFi but now it will not (again). I can get through the entire setup procedure until it asks what to name the thermostat, then the app is just busy stating "attempting to connect" for around 10-15 minutes, then finally just ends and goes back to the "Add New Device" screen with no device added. I've contacting Honeywell for tech support and it has been about two weeks and I've not heard a peep from anyone. Nothing else in my Smart Home setup has any problems whatsoever and I'm a computer networking professional. I have both Amazon and Google smart devices and they both work everything (except the Lyric). I wish I had spent another $20 and just gotten the Ecobee. This product is terrible and I urge anyone who's thinking about buying it to run as fast as you can from this product. My original review remains below. ========================================================================== I have edited this review from a 1-Star rating. After the thermostat had suddenly stopped functioning, I removed it to check voltages on the wires. Using a troubleshooting guide, I measured voltage between C and R and was instructed that it should be around 24 VAC, but it was only 9. I double checked all the wiring, even though this had been working before, and found everything to be in order. There was a small slide switch inside the unit regarding the C wire, so I thought perhaps I had it in the wrong position. I changed it and sure enough, the voltage now read about 28 VAC, but the thermostat would not complete the setup and actually told me that it didn't have any power and to turn it on. I sent photos to Honeywell support showing them exactly what I did including all the wiring of their transformer "WireSaver" that I had installed. The only thing they mentioned was that the switch was in the wrong position. I had taken the photo after I moved it. I told them I had it the other direction initially but changed it when it stopped working. After I switched it back, the thermostat mysteriously began working again and I didn't even have to run through the WiFi setup. It all connected by itself. I still have about 9 volts where they claim it should be 24, so I don't know what's going on there. The only thing I can guess is one of the wires was not making good contact in their terminal and by moving them a bit, it stated to work. Anyway, to be fair, I decide to update the terrible review to this 4-Star one. I still can't justify 5 stars, mainly due to the way the thermostat control mounts to the wall plate. It is held simply by the pins where the electrical connections are made. These are very short and I'm not sure how long they will hold. I'm just glad I don't have any children in the home because I can see this being pulled easily off the wall. I think a single screw in the front covered by a plastic cap would have been a better idea.
