Grape Growing: A Beginners Guide To Discovering The Fundamentals Of Growing Grapes

NOT for Beginners!
I was looking for a book to help me properly establish 3 Concord grape vines in my back yard. I'm not starting a winery! This was NOT it! No instructional photos or diagrams that would be helpful for making a trellis or pruning new plants. There are charts with technical stuff like pH & fertilizer based on ACREAGE... Not for the backyard gardener. Just sayin"...

Good to Know
Good book for beginning grape growers. I am planning on putting in grape vines next year and wanted to prepare for what I need to do. I learned about the soil ph and fertilizer as well as what pest and disease to watch for. How to plant them and prune them. I recommend for those who are planning on starting grapes!

This book is not an adequate beginners guide to anything.
The book title claims to be "a beginners guide" but does little more than mention an outline of what is needed. It also has conflicting concepts without seeming to acknowledge nor differentiate them. For example, it mentions that some may want to use organic methods of fertilizing but then a few pages later it goes into using herbicides to wipe out cover crops.Even a common topic such as installing a trellis is lacking details such as what height to place the wires and why, or what H-braces are or what they are for, and no photos or diagrams. For pruning, the author only says "Prune vines if necessary. You don't want to Prune them if you don't absolutely need to as this will negatively affect your harvest." End of topic. End of explanation. Huh? Come on, I paid for this?I don't often write reviews, but I feel compelled to warn others about my negative experience with this book.

It's like the kind of notes you'd make for yourself if ...
I wish I could be a grape grower as a career and a wine maker. That would be something I could really devote myself to. This book about grape growing tells what you need to know in a comprehensive and yet simple to understand way. It's like the kind of notes you'd make for yourself if you thoroughly learned a subject and wanted the information handy.

Good book to add to the collection
Great book, lots of knowledge, I didn’t like the beginning of the book seemed they try to discourage you but the information in the book is great for anyone growing grapes in Texas

A complete waste of money
This book explains nothing about the basics of growing grapes. It is simply a list of observations with some charts thrown in.

Not for beginners!!!
For me, absolutely useless. Not what I expected or needed. This book appears to be aimed at the large-scale grower beginner with some knowledge of vineyard practices. Ideally I was looking for some guidance on pruning and care of one plant (vine) in my back garden with a view to improving quality and yield.

not what it says!
this book should be called vineyard cultivation..a very general guide. no use if like me you simply want to know how to grow a vine in your glasshouse, but a basic guide if your goal is making wine.
