Lacking substance
Far from "A very thorough and detailed examination of the WFL including individual players stars and background...", this book is 97% lists, rosters and statistics. Being an "encyclopedia", I expected some of that, despite it not being mentioned in the description. However, the narrative as shockingly scant. Four pages total on the background and development of the WFL? That could easily be a 200-page book alone. Very brief team write-ups. This was a complete waste of money.

The WFL ...... issues inside and out
Great source of information for those of us who remember this league. However, the book is wrought with editing, spelling and grammatical errors. If not for the fact the authors did disclose that the statistics were kept by the WFL themselves and at times were inaccurate, I would question the validity of the book. While some of us were just kids when this league was born (and died), we do remember a lot about it. The book refreshes our memories and provides us with business details we didn't care about back then. With that said, this book is a great in-depth view of just how disorganized the WFL was from start to finish. When the USFL came along some time later, many of us hoped those owners had learned from the many mistakes the WFL owners made. Maybe if this book was available back then it would've helped? Knowing how a certain billionaire is, probably not. In any case, this is one of the very, very few pieces of media still available about the WFL. Snatch it up!!!

WFL- GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Timeless reference for a short lived league. The WFL came along at the wrong time (big recession, pre cable TV) and had the wrong kind of money behind it. If they could have hung on for 3 more years they might have forced a partial merger and cities like Memphis and Birmingham might now have NFL teams. Heres hoping for a similar book on the USFL.

World Football League Encyclopedia
Very good summaries of the teams and games. Excellent player register, which lists not only the WFL team(s), but other pro teams for which the individual played.(Found one player, Robert Barber, who played in the WFL,NFL,CFL and USFL.) This book is a must for WFL junkies, and/or for one doing research on the history of pro football in the USA.

loads of information about a league gone too soon.
The most comprehensive material, concerning the WFL, that I have ever seen and i have been looking for quite a few years. I know a couple of the guys who played in thr league, and find much of the information quite intriguing, if you a someone who enjoys the stats AND the stories.

complete in almost every way
Don't fear as this is not just a stat book. There are short "articles" on each team's season before presenting the usual passing, kicking, rushing, etc. stats as well as team rosters. Complete player register of every person who played in the WFL as well as where they played before and after. Records of the WFL college, pro, dispersal and expansion draft lists.Only thing I caught wrong was a reference to Birmingham Americans' owner Bill Putnam being involved with Jack Kent Cooke's NHL team. Problem is the book says it was the Philadelphia Flyers but JKC owned the Los Angeles Kings.Would've liked to see some pics and logos added. Maybe in the next edition.
