* Original Post March 19, 2013 *Anyone who is reading this, are these remastered or not? Cannot find any information if they are remastered or not?* UPDATE: Oct 28, 2013 *Purchased this box set and obviously these are not remastered, but I had to purchase anyway because my CD's were lost years ago and I had bad copies of them in the lowest mp3 compressed setting possible. I consider these some of Lou Reeds BEST albums and if you're a new or old fan you will surely enjoy this box set. New York is the obvious hit CD here and it brings back so many memories for me. It also sounds new to this day! While Songs for Drella and Magic & Loss are my least favorites, this box set is still worth getting for the other 3 CD's. Each CD comes in a miniature vinyl sleeve with no liner notes, but I still recommend this box set for the quantity of music vs price.Rest In Peace Lou: Just found out about your passing today, your music inspired me since the 90's and also inspired my travels! My favorite is obviously the New York album, it reminds me of traveling across this great country and out west. God Bless & Rest In Peace my friend.

As a whole this gets five stars and each individual album should with the exception of New York. Strangely I find it to be only par for Lou. Songs For Drella & Ecstasy are the very best in this package. Those two albums are amazing through and through. Set the Twilight Reeling is also a very exceptional piece of work and so is Magic and Loss which may be sort of a concept record…..I'm not totally sure. For the price, that is no more then these can be purchased for individually, this set is so worth the investment. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad place to start with if your new to Lou Reed, likely a good place I think. His early stuff is a wonderful place to as well.

These 5 lps r the high points of lous solo output. A burst of immense creative expression & relevant commentary. All recorded in the space of about 7 years- starting with the N.Y. lp in 88. Ecstasy was recorded in 90 but not released till years later.

If you like Lou Reed and do not have these albums (or, like me, only one or two), or if you want to get an intro into Lou's music, then GET THIS SET. I have had a copy of "New York" which, for a number of years, has rarely been far from my turntable. The other albums are up there with "New York", especially "Ecstacy". The whole set is worth it for the 17 minute track "Like a Possum" alone - if I want to get off my head on music then I just put this track on REALY LOUD.......
