Love this cargo carrier and love the company that sells it
We ordered this carrier, had some problems with shipping and the company did everything they could to make it right. Gold stars all around. I would buy from them any day any time. The carrier itself was easy to assemble. Eight bolts, easy directions, hard to mess up. The one addition I would make to the instructions is: after it is assembled, use an alcohol swab to wipe the area and then drying the area before applying the reflective stickers. I did add additional reflective stickers to be unmistakable at night, but this is not necessary for most. The carrier fits well in the trailer hitch receiver with very little wiggle room. It is sturdy and rides well in travel. And I love the fact I can raise it vertical when it is not loaded to be mostly flush with the back of our vehicle. Nothing bad to say... it is perfect for our needs! I like that the stinger (the part that goes into the car's trailer hitch) has three (3) different holes so you can choose how close you want the carrier to the vehicle. I like a little space so can can step between the vehicle and carrier when traveling to access things in the vehicle. I can also position the carrier so when the carrier is vertical it is right against the spare tire. Nice flexibility!!! One more comment: I added a 4 inch drop down hitch to the vehicle so the top of the carrier was lower than the bottom of our van back doors. So when the carrier is not loaded, I can open the doors over the top of the carrier. This is convenient at times when camping or traveling. What is not to like? We are very happy with this purchase!!!

Perfect for my 2018 Caravan... and at a great price!
Let's address some of the negative reviews first... 1. I have virtually no rattle, but anyone who owns a hitch knows you only need to get a tightener. Search: Hitch Tightener, Anti-Rattle 2. Some had concerns of rust. Mine is completly covered with a black powder coating. After reading some sad stories, I bought a $0.99 can of black flat spray paint at Lowe's and coated it using the entire can before assembling and before attaching the reflector stickers (see pic). Note: only use bungee cords with rubber coated end-hooks so you don't scrape off the paint, which will cause rust... also available at Lowe's. 3. The weld points on mine are perfect. This thing is big, thick, heavy and built solid. The mesh is not what holds the 500lbs. Thus, those weld points are not as important, but are more than sufficient. The mesh is attached below the carrier's frame and is just to keep small items from falling through. I attached 4 pics of this carrier in both the opened and closed positions and from two different angles. This carrier has three pin holes to choose from, for inserting your hitch pin. Thus, you can choose how far away you want the carrier from your vehicle. All my pics show it inserted to just the first hole to keep it away from the vehicle when folded up. Note: my receiver is set-back under my bumper so I can't use the two closer settings (when folded up). However, if I'm going on a long trip with a full load, I can slide it further into the receiver when it's in the down position only. That will allow for greater stability of heavier loads. Good Luck Everyone! This is the perfect for tailgating, nursery runs (gardening centers), camping, and distant trips. Unlike a single axle trailer, you don't have to drive slow, you dont need lights, dont have to register it, nor pay eccise tax or additional toll amounts for the additional axle. Just remember to center your weight and tie everything down.

Great for the money...
This carrier is pretty fantastic honestly, but I am going to make some observations. Number one is that the included hardware is not great, I went to ACE and bought good nuts and bolts for about another $15 or so. Easily solved but kind of annoying. The powdercoating is not the best. I think that it is adequate for what this item is, but don't expect perfection. Other than that this is is amazing. I loaded it up for spring break with a couple of big totes and some beach gear. Drove it 1800 miles round trip without a single issue. The folding mechanism is solid and easy to use. The carrier is solid, strong, and well built. I did buy a little hitch tightener, as per other reviews https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01597QPL6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it was a good addition as the shank was a little loose in my 2" hitch. For about $100 you can't do better. I could have built one that is better and stronger and has a better coating but I would have spent far more money and time than this cost me. For the two or three times a year that I will use it this is perfect. I have no doubt that I will be using it for years to come, probably have to spray some paint on it down the road, but I am very happy with my purchase. PS - if you hung in all the way to the end here is a little nugget of wisdom, those black and yellow totes they sell at Costco (the big size) fit side by side like this carrier was made for them, you're welcome. - Kyle

Solid product especially for the price...
First things first, assembly. Read a fair number of reviews that mentioned difficulty assembling. Not sure what problems others have had, but it couldn't have been easier to put together. Basket comes in two halves and there are seven bolts (with washers and nuts) to connect them. There is an additional bolt to hook it up to the post along with a pin and clamp that allow you to lock it in the down or up position once it's been connected to the tow hitch. When connecting to the hitch there are three options for holes based on how close you want the basket to the rear of the truck. In order to put the basket in the up position, had to use the middle hole. Using the hole that puts the basket closest to the truck, I couldn't fold the basket up and lock it in position as the bumper got in the way. You could move positions of the post (i.e. closer to the truck when down and loaded and further from the truck when you need to fold it up). But, that would mean you'd have to loosen the hitch stabilizer and remove the pin that locks the unit to the tow hitch. When loaded the plate is obscured so I just made a color copy of the plate, laminated it, and then secured it to the basket with zip ties. The brake lights are not obscured with a light load. Haven't tested the 500 lb capacity but the basket seems very sturdy. Secured content with bungy cords! For the price this product provides much needed, and flexible, extra storage capacity for long road trips.

Heavy Duty - Great Product - Very Pleased
Very heavy duty and worked awesome on our trip from Florida to Tennessee and back. We purchased it to transport our luggage so the family of 5 would be more comfortable in the SUV. It was a great investment. This carrier is very large and can fold up when not in use on your trip which was very useful for our purposes. I would recommend finding some padding for the carrier such as a "pool noodle" or A/C pipe insulation if you intent to keep it folded up as most rear doors on SUVs and Crossovers have automatic opening doors. It will save you some scratches on the rear door, if in the event you forget and accidentally open it while folded up. Luckily, It didn't happen to me but I can see it happening so be forewarned. I didn't realize it until I received the product but there are several (3) pin positions on the hitch. This allows you to set the carrier closer or further away from your vehicle which is very helpful to allow the rear door / hatch to open, even after the carrier is loaded. You do have to be aware when loading to not obscure your tail lights or tag (to be legal). There are kits that will attach lights to your carrier and plug into your trailer wiring harness if needed. I was very pleased with this product and would recommend it. NOTE: This is heavy and might be difficult to mount on your vehicle's hitch receiver without two people.
