California Costumes Lil' Mermaid Girl's Costume, Medium

My granddaughter wanted to be the little mermaid for Halloween & after reading the reviews, I decided to buy this costume. The picture does not do it justice!! It's really cute and the tail part looks like a real mermaid tail. It does run big; I bought the 3-4 Toddler size and she is @40 lbs. & wears 5T clothes. It was the perfect length (she's @42 inches high). It fit snug, but on our cold Halloween night she was able to wear a fleece long-sleeved top & pants in dark purple underneath due to the stretchiness of the costume's knit fabrics. To my surprise it didn't look "lumpy" or bulked up at all - it looked fabulous!!! Very graceful & lovely on my g-daughter. I would caution though that it's a lightweight costume, you can see through it in the leg area and it needs pants or leggings or tights underneath it. Also some of the green "sequins" fell off in the leg area over time, but I didn't notice it unless I looked closely. Also, the tiara is poorly made, but we used a separately-purchased Ariel crown and jewelry set with the seashell necklace that sings instead. All in all, a terrific-looking costume!!

This is a very pretty costume! As soon as it arrived, my daughter wore it for a couple of hours. I appreciate that it's not Disney -- just a nice, general mermaid costume. It's often cold on Halloween where we live, so I was excited for the long sleeves and full coverage. It does run big, as others have said. My daughter usually wears a 6X up to a 7/8, depending on how things are cut. I got her the 4-6X, and it's perfect. Others have said the shells fall off the headband. This is true. I plan to glue them in place with my favorite craft glue (Aleene's). The tail sweeps the ground, as a mermaid's tail should. I have a little concern about it getting stepped on/dirty, but I think having feet showing underneath would ruin the mermaid look. We might pin it up a bit. The tail is very sparkly, and I appreciate that the bottom is lined with something stiff so it will be a bit stronger and keep its shape. The boa comes separately, and you should get it -- it's an especially nice one.

My daughter is 2 1/2, but is very tall and wears a size 3T-4T (mostly 4T at this point). This was her first year asking for a specific costume for Halloween, but the joy and awe when we opened the package was worth far more than I could have ever imagined. The fit and length on her is perfect, just like the picture. The tail hits he floor and stands out, thanks to some stiff fabric lining, which both looks like a tail and allows her to walk (although she does have to walk fairly slowly and I may pin the skirt a bit higher for certain events so her knees are more free to walk/climb/run/etc. The headband is adorable and seems comfortable for her, but the little shells slide around a fair amount and tend to fall down in random directions as she moves and plays. I'm sure this makes them more customize-able for a pre-fab costume and a dab of glue or something could make them stay if you wanted to go through the effort. I was concerned about the sequins and she seems to battle a bit about being fascinated enough with them to want to peel them off, and wanting the dress to stay perfect enough to be gentle with them, so for now they are fine - even after she played with the dress on for an entire evening. The packaging specifically says to spot clean only and to absolutely not put it in the machine, which makes sense for any garment that has bits glued on. While it may not be durable enough for a daily dress-up outfit, I think it is an excellent costume for Halloween, and maybe a few extra events that may occur in the short period of time before little ones grow out of it :)

Very cute costume! It definitely runs on the larger side - it was worn by my taller than average 4 year old, and we got the 3-4 size. The bigger size would have been too big, even though she wears 5 in tops and 4/5 in bottoms. She is 44" & 36lbs for reference. Mom wore the adult version of this California Costumes mermaid costume and dad was King Neptune - we all got tons of compliments! The bottom of the tail was reinforced with some stiff fabric interfacing, so it stayed flared - the mom costume did not have this feature, it was more flowy. Since she was a Sea Princess and not 'The Little Mermaid' we chose a wig to coordinate with mom's wig - the Monster High Lagoona Blue wig. The costume is thin, like most costumes, and would have been too cold for our area, so we layered a long-sleeved pink tee underneath - looked great!

This costume is so cute! My daughter loved it when she saw it. I was a little worried about this costume holding up after some of the reviews, but it did the trick the entire Halloween season. My daughter (3 yo) wore it to 5 different events including going trick or treating. Some of the sequins did fall off during the rough play times, but you could barely tell because there are so many. One thing, the costume was a little long so when she was running around the fins on the tail (the white fabric lining the inside) did get torn up by her shoes. I merely cut it off when that happened. You can probably pin the costume up to avoid it if you want to. The fin is still remained in tact, but once it got torn it was see through at the bottom, as in you could see her shoes. Overall, cute costume, decent quality and price.

My daughter is really into dress-up clothes right now, and also wants to be a mermaid for Halloween. I previously purchased one of those Disney Ariel costumes for about $20, but as many different versions as they have, I feel like they all miss the mark of actually looking like a mermaid. I was hesitant to order this one, but decided at just over $12 it was worth a try (at the very least we could add it to her dress-up clothes.) It is PERFECT!!! We bought the medium 3-4 for my 3 year old daughter. She is pretty tall for her age at 38 inches and 30 lbs. The costume is a great size, but slightly long (ie room to grow). I plan on pinning it up a couple inches around the waist for Halloween use. I feel like the quality is great for the cost, but note the sequins are pretty much just glued on, so will likely start to fall off with lots of wear. But really, if you're thinking about it, do it - I don't think you'll be disappointed!

We got the large size, and it fits my four-year-old well. She will need to wear it with shoes to keep the bottom from dragging on the ground, but she likes that you can't see her feet. She wants to wear it all the time, so I hid it until halloween. The sequin look nice, but I don't know how it will hold up to washing. The bottom is a nice shimmery sort of tulle. I like the long sleeves, which will keep her arms warm, and you could easily layer for colder places without ruining the costume. The headband is cute but the shells don't stay on. You might need to hot glue it or something if you want to use it for a dress up.

Super cute. My 3.5 year old daughter loves the costume and wore it all night. It came with a head band with "shells" which she miraculously wore all night long. It's easy to run around in it although climbing is a bit more difficult. But she'll be the perfect Mermaid she wants to be. She's thin (~33 pounds) and tall (90th percentile) and the 3-4 dress just fits her. The length hits the floor perfectly. We struggled a little to get it on but when on, fit perfectly. They also gave us a free safety blinking light which was a nice touch. I can see myself buying the next size up (4-6) when she outgrows this one.

The outfit was exactly as shown on the website, it arrived within the time specified and my Darling little Granddaughter loved it and looked amazing for her 'Under the Ocean Princess' 5th Birthday party. The tiara was nicer than I expected it would be and complimented the outfit perfectly. As I live in Australia it was a great feeling being able to spoil my little girl from so far away. Thank you.

Das Kostüm hat meiner Enkeltochter sehr gut gefallen. Leider passt hier der Spruch:"Außen hui und innen pfui". Sie hat es nach der Party vom Körper gerissen und will es nie mehr anziehen, da es innen sehr schlecht gefüttert ist und einen kleinen Kinderkörper sehr kratzt. Für das Geld habe ich auch "innen" eine gewisse Qualität erwartet. Für außen hätte ich fünf Sterne gegeben, für innen maximal einen.

Esta muy bonito y bien hecho. Viene poquito más grande de la talla que dice y definitivamente es para niñas delgadas!

Prinzipiell schönes Kleid, leider in ganz schlechter Qualität und nicht waschbar! Ich habe das Kleid kurz vor Weihnachten gekauft, das Christkind sollte es bringen, so war leider die Zeit für eine Retoure und den Kauf eines anderen Kleides zu knapp. Sonst hätte ich ein Kleidungsstück, das man nicht waschen und nicht reinigen kann, natürlich zurückgeschickt. Was für ein Unsinn! Schon bei der ersten Anprobe hat der Rock die ersten Pailletten verloren, die nur aufgeklebt sind. Seitdem verteilen sie sich bei jedem Tragen durch die Wohnung und auf dem Rock glitzert es immer weniger. Auch der Rest ist ganz billig gemacht, die ersten Nähte reißen nach ein paarmal tragen, die Borte am Ausschnitt franst aus. Fazit: Finger weg, ganz miese Qualität!
